I've seen a lot of discussion around the internet lately about how Microsoft is going to ruin Minecraft, charge for future updates, or get rid of the modding community, but to me, this makes no sense. Microsoft wouldn't spend billions of dollars on the game to ruin it.

Let's put it this way. Pretend there was a little lemonade stand set up down the street and it suddenly became extremely successful so you buy it for a lot of money. You bought it because you wanted a taste of that success. You didn't buy it "just 'cause". You probably wouldn't change the recipe for that lemmonade for a long time because the recipe was what people wanted to come back to. Sure, there will be a few poeple who keep coming back just because the lemonade still has the same name, but you will lose a big portion of your customers when the recipe is changed which means you will also lose a big portion of your income.

A huge company like Microsoft won't change the recipe because they want a good return on their investment.

I heard that Microsoft is making Minecraft 2. It is hard to tell whether or not that Microsoft is going to improve Minecraft or going to ruin it. All we can do at the moment is hope that Microsoft doesn't mess up Minecraft

Microsoft might ruin minecraft... Or they might not. There's too little evidence to whether we can say how they will treat minecraft. All we have to do is stay calm and hope that nothing bad happens and maybe microsoft actually improves minecraft.

Microsoft paid 2.5 billion dollars. How are they going to get returns on that investment anytime soon? I'm guessing that they will try to opt out older operating systems (Windows XP, Vista, etc.). I heard that the XBOX users may get access to extra features that PC users might not get (that's just a rumour, though).

All Microsoft is gonna do to Minecraft is probably give the Mojang team more coders.  I'm pretty optomistic about this.
