Squids have been hated since the sky army was born. They were never treated very good, because of their blue flesh and intimidating tentacles, the horrifying mouth and jarhead-like appearance, these were the most stupid mob and most hated on minecraft, the second being the bat.
Now i'm telling you why the community hates squids. (not being mean to the squid army and sky, i respect both.)
1. Squids are hated by their appearance. Their intimidating appearance makes people mad. That is one reason why they donlike them, is their appearance. Squids have 8 legs, which is more of a octopus, so that makes the community argue too. Anyone fan boy who sees the color blue can make them go SQUID!! SQUID!! SQUID!! (Squid spam)
2. They are hated by server owners because they create lag. Sometimes, there can be a major squid spawn overload, so bunches of them spawn. Server owners have to ban a lot of players because of the intense spam "SQUID(s)!" and this is what usually causes servers to shut down.
3. They are very useless. All they do is drop ink sacs (My favorite!) nothing else. They swim, and don't do as much. I have no idea what to say about number 3, but their just plain useless.
4. Even though they are not intentionally a hostile mob, they sure do act like one in the community. Which this makes this annoying and confusing to new players. Other players had reports that squids destroyed their house, which isn't true if you don't have the retarded squids modification. Some has even said that when mining underwater, when they needed air, a squid block their way and suffocated them under ice, which is VERY TRUE.
Some has said that while mining, a whole squid waterfall fell down on them and dropped them down a ravine. Kind of true, but isn't really hostile if you land on the water. Anyways, squids are not suppose to be hostile, but they way they were coded says so, better watch out for squids then!
5. The bugs that occur in SMP can be a problem when the bugs are directed towards the squids. They can fly while bugged, so that makes huge spam. Other bugs can be a big problem, ESPECIALLY the flying squid bug.
Now you know why the squids are hated towards the community. I'm not saying that i hate you IF you WERE a squid, but just to be nice...

i'm gonna list the things that are GREAT with the squids!
1. Squids are excellent pets. They don't do much, but they are fun to look at, especially when they do silly things in the aquarium. You can "feed" it by giving it food. You can talk to it to tell it's problems, and pretend that it can talk back! sure, it might disappear when you leave too far from home but get another one and keep it!
2. Because of their wacky phrases and comedy in sky's videos, they make good comedians. Especially when they keep saying to sky: "Over here, im over here, YA!" and sky says, "Wha-Wha-WHERE ARE YOU?!" their deep voice that can change pitch is the greatest comedian on minecraft.
3. As a weapon, this could be the most toughest use towards a squid. Maybe you can charge a bunch of squids down a water chute to block the griefer, or use him in PVP by activating a squid lever..the possibilities are endless!
4. They have a good use of ink sacs, which is good if you want to make books with book and quill. Don't forget dyeing wool to be black wool, nothing would be possible without it.
5. They add ambience. It makes the game more fun with them, because it adds a great amount of suspense. Without squids, the ocean wouldn't be an ocean any more!!!
6. They are cute in some sort of way. In one angle, other than that horrifying mouth they have, they are pretty nice. Even though skydoesminecraft say they look ugly, they look cute on the other way, and when releasing one in the ocean looks so beautiful as it swims away in harmony.
7. Making them useful themselves. Program a use for the squids. Be creative! Be Original! think of what use a squid would have if you coded it to the game! there are already a bunch of them already created! like the derpy squid mod! think of ANYTHING to make them useful!

Actually, they are cute too :D but only on one side of the mob..i don't like that mouth they have.
Yes, and they dye wool, make books, and add ambience, and awkwardly, black is my favorite color.
