Hello my friends! I would have posted a blog much sooner than I did, but I was living out a life, so the computer had to wait. I am going to go third grader style and tell you what this blog is about and all that. This blog is (obviously) about the infamous Writers' Block! I guess you could say that this is more of a tutorial about how to remove writer's block, but I'm also informing you about my experiences, so yeah...

What Is Writer's Block?
Writer's Block is a condition of the mind where a writer cannot produce more works of literature. It can be the worst time of a writer's life (or the best if you're me (scroll down to my experience)). Writer's Block can send writer into inactivity for years on end and has even permanently destroyed careers. It also has an effect on the mind, causing the author to think his or her writing is "not good enough" or inferior to other works, when it could be the opposite!

Many events, ideas, experiences can cause this mental condition:
  • Running out of inspiration
  • Distractions
  • The feeling that other work needs to be done first
  • Lack of knowledge / experience of the topic
  • Death of a close relative / friend
  • The end of a relationship
  • Depression
  • Physical sickness
  • Financial pressures
  • The writer deeming himself or herself as a failure
  • The intimidation of a previous success (in which the writer believes he or she cannot produce another successful work of literature)
  • Pressure from other people to keep working / work faster
  • Working too fast
  • Writing about a topic where the writer feels uncomfortable

Just yesterday I had a case of Writer's Block. I was bouncing around topics and ideas to blog about, but I kept deeming them "not good enough" or "wouldn't be as popular as my last blog". So, I started to find a cure by using the world around me, when I realized the thing I should blog about is preventing me from blogging in the first place: Writer's Block! I started a draft, and hit Writer's Block for a second time! Writer's Block while writing about Writer's Block. Well that happens every day... Anyways, I believe the easiest ways of curing Writer's Block are using your world around you, and looking at other works for inspiration.

Ironically, the curing process of Writer's Block is more writing! The list below shows some cures (be aware there can be more than this).
  • Free writing
  • Brainstorming
  • List making
  • Clustering
  • None working? Try to uncover your writing process, then free write.
  • Use the world around you as your inspiration!
  • Look at other works (in this case, PMC blogs) for inspiration!
  • Even a little bit of encouragement from someone or somewhere helps.
  • Spoiler
You can do it, bud! =D

Writer's Block is a mental condition that can and will get you stuck, put you down, or just annoy you. Don't let that happen! Use the various ways of curing it to get yourself going again. Work at your own pace and use your own style. People don't have to dictate how you work and when you work.

Thank you for reading this, my friends. Hopefully this was some inspiration, or a cure from Writer's Block! Either way, I leave you at that.
