The following text will probably challenge your opinion on several things, if you want to comment, then please do it in a polite way.

The issue:

So, this is an issue that bothers me for quite some time now, and its definitely something that will divide
people into several groups with different opinions.
Recently I often see comments being posted on projects that say something about the project creator
"stealing" or "copying" the project from somebody else. And mostly those rude individuals then mention
some famous youtuber that has once provided a video or even a map looking similar to the project creator ones.

The definition:

Now I generally am against project stealing, but only if its really the act of stealing. But what exactly does
"stealing somebodys project" actually mean?. Here's a random example to show you what I would define as stealing somebodys project.
- A building team called "Insertrandomnamehere" is building an adventuremap on their server and work on it for quite a while, make it look fancy, add books with a storyline etc...
One of the builders involved in this adventure map has a friend ("Friend A") who he'd like to invite to join the building team. "Friend A" therefore gets invited to the server. Since "Friend A" is a very sad person who cannot build anything ingame himself without it looking shit, he decides to install World Downloader and download all of the adventuremap that the building team has build in the past couple of weeks. After 2 more days, the building team suddenly discovers their not even finished adventure map on Planetminecraft with another name, posted by "Friend A".

So by my definition, in this situation, "Friend A" would have stolen the building teams project since he did not contribute to their work. That's what I define as project stealing. Of course it would still be stealing if "Friend A" would've actually built a tiny little house on the adventuremap beforehand, since he did not contribute most to the project or had permission from the server owner to post it.

Back to the crimescene:

Now back to daily examples of planetminecraft. As it comes, me and a friend of mine both experienced being called thieves of somebody elses project even though its absolutely absurd if you look at it closely.

I myself released a project called Battle Islands a while back which basically used the same principles as Hypixels "The Walls 2" by using walls of sand in the middle and having 4 boxes around it aswell as redstone timers counting down till the match begins.
And even though I clearly wrote in the topic that the map was inspired by Hypixel, people started writing comments such as "You stole this from...", "This project should be deleted", "At least give credit to the real creator" etc...
Thanks to ZaphodX those comments were removed after a while.

Just to clear things up, I have really enjoyed playing the walls series myself and am currently working in two of Hypixels building teams, creating the maps that you all enjoy playing. So when I made Battle Islands I really did not have any other intention than to provide a platform for people to have a nice experience and maybe to see one or the other youtube video about it (yes I watch every video made about my maps). I wasnt going for money, I wasnt going for fame with that map, just the wish to give the community something they can play with. Also I never used ANY parts of the old walls maps, I have not copied a single block with any Worldeditting plugins/tool. I even spent a few hours figuring out a redstone clock myself that I could use, but even though I didnt copy anything at all, I still was called a thief.

Now there is a quote from the movie "The social network" that I think fits perfectly: "Look, a guy who builds a nice chair doesn't owe money to everyone who ever has built a chair, okay? They came to me with an idea, I had a better one."

This pretty much destroys every single argument of people arguing against my opinion, but just to make my point more clear, I'd like to give you a list of things that somebody once came up with in an adventure/pvp map and now is constantly used WITHOUT people calling them thieves:

- Pumpkins as NPC's
- Images/questnotes on Mapfiles
- Using pumpkins as CTM object (pumpkin + 2 snowblocks = snowman who then triggers something by falling on pressureplate...)
- Sky survival maps in general (and no, skyblock was NOT the first sky survival map)
- Hungergames maps
- Painting fishing
- 2x2/3x3+ Piston doors
- and a lot more than I could list here...

Summary:

Just because some famous Youtuber/PMCer/Blogger/Builder or whatever once made something or put a video of something online, he does not own a copyright of the general idea and what could be done with it in the future. The next time you see a project being posted on PMC that looks like something that has been posted before, don't just shout at him. Download the project, take a look at it and maybe you might even like it. Afterall, if everyone would stop posting projects that included just one idea of something that had been there already, PMC would be quite an empty place.

youtubers should be allowed to showcase maps,

even if the map creator says no.

there is no rule in any part of the minecraft community saying they are not allowed too.

also youtubers most likely make your map more popular and you should be thanking THEM

A diamond and favorite for you sir. This was incredible, I am a (new) map maker and i completely agree with you on every single thing in that post. Just because a small thing has been used before, doesn't mean it can never be used again.

There is even something in the rules about that. Ideas cannot be stolen, only the actual work

Very well written. I've seen just what you written about so many times and I think it's nice that you write it so that the community can see it! Probably going to use this as a reply when someone says my projects are stealing or copies. Good job, diamonded and favorited.
