Introduction
The following spoilers will detail aspects of the Galactic Alliance Navy and various navies of smaller factions. In addition to lore information, there will be clarification on certain aspects designed for CC, such as the classification system and some tactics that can be used to combat specific types of ships.

While the information on this page is inspired by real world navies and some sci-fi series, do not expect all information or definitions to line up with their equivalents. I don't want comments stating things like, "a commander is supposed to be a ground leader." If a word doesn't quite fit as you know it, suspend disbelief; assume that this is a translation, and the word used was the closest in meaning to the intended concept.

Ship Classification System
Every spaceship built for war is placed into one of four categories. Each of these categories has many diverse classes, but they all perform the same broad role in conjunction with the other two categories. Tactics utilizing only one or two of these categories will almost always fail against an enemy utilizing all four, regardless of the commander's competence.
Ship categories
[Strike craft]
Strike craft are optimized for combat with other strike craft, and capital ships with support. They are the most maneuverable, but are outpaced in a straight line by any other category, meaning they must be carried by a host ship in most cases. Strike craft carry weapons and ordnance that is useless against capital ship shields, but when supported by heavy weaponry from friendly capital ships can cripple opponents or perform precision attacks. Strike craft are the most numerous type of spaceship, requiring only one to three pilots and being far smaller than any other spacecraft.

[Support craft]
Support craft are optimized to aid capital ships or strike craft in conjunction with the other category. Support craft are relatively small, with no more than a few hundred crew members and short enough for several to be stored in capital ships. Support craft are heavily specialized in many cases, suited for a specific role. They can shatter enemy fighter formations or slip through the defensive fire from enemy capital ships while they're distracted and score critical hits. Some support craft also can serve as logistic craft.

[Capital ships]
Capital ships are the largest and most powerful category, sometimes spanning many miles in length and carrying crews in the tens of thousands. They carry numerous strike craft and support craft, heavy equipment, and planet-shattering weaponry. Capital ships are designed to combat other capital ships almost exclusively, as well as ferry the other categories in bulk. Capital ships come in over a dozen product lines, each working in conjunction to form a cohesive front against the enemy. While they cannot effectively combat the other categories at range, capital ships can take immense damage and keep on fighting.

[Logistics craft]
Logistics craft work to maintain the other three categories, by moving parts, material, fuel, ammunition, and other necessities from storehouses to the fleet. They are useless in combat, but without logistics craft fleets will be worn down through attrition before they can succeed in an extended campaign.

When shipyard executives and Galactic Navy officers receive a data file detailing a new type of ship entering production, the first slice of information listed in the file is what is known as "identifier titles." These describe, using a handful of keywords, what the ship is called, what it is intended to do, and how best to apply it in battle when considering its finer characteristics.

There are four pieces of information listed. They are:
-Title
-Product line
-Model
-Class

[Title]
The title of a ship lists the product line, model, and class of a ship. When initiating communications with a ship, or referring to it in a general sense, one uses the title. For instance, the standard opening communication when aiding a civilian ship from a Galactic Navy warship is, "This is the {class} class {model} {product line} {ship's name}. Please respond."

[Product line]
A ship’s product line is the most general categorization for a vessel, and gives an idea of the primary function of that ship. For instance, ships in the destroyer product line will always be designed for close quarters fighting, with low defense but high firepower and maneuverability. Attempting to use a ship from a certain product line in another’s area of expertise will most likely result in that craft’s destruction.

[Model]
A ship’s model refers to the finer details of the craft’s function. Models are used as a modifier for the product line, such as a heavy cruiser, or an artillery frigate. Commanders use the model of a ship as a reference point to determine how best to apply the ship in its given area of combat.

[Class]
A ship’s class is the name chosen for that particular architectural design. While individual ships each have a unique name, all ships of identical design are designated as the same class. In addition, types of ships with similar design features but different product lines may also be grouped in classes.

Fleet Organization
When large numbers of warships gather in a single formation, they are split into different groups to make it easier for the fleet commander to quickly and efficiently order and track the condition of the fleet during battle and movements. Strike craft have their own unique group classifications, while the other three categories of ships follow a single list of organization.

Squadron organization
V1 - Strike craft
[The lowest level of organization, singular strike craft are given a code number for flight controllers to use.]
V2 - Wing
[A wing of strike craft usually consist of four to ten individual strike craft, with one serving as the wing commander.]
V3 - Squadron
[Squadrons consist of three wings of star fighters, under the command of a squadron leader.]

Senior pilots can advance to command positions, and are given command of squadrons with more wings of strike craft and sometimes even multiple squadrons. These include lieutenants (V4), sergeants (V5), and majors (V6).
Fleet organization
Groups of support craft, logistic craft, and capital ships are organized into several layers of command. Each level is commanded by a ranking officer, with the level above having a commander of higher ranking. The fleet commander gives general objectives and maneuvers to the officers directly below them in ranking, who have the ability to achieve those goals however they see fit. This allows for greater flexibility and ingenuity in combat, and permits the fleet commander to focus on the broader picture as opposed to micromanaging hundreds of ship.

W1 - Squadron
[Squadrons are the first layer of fleet organization. Squadrons have several dozen of a category of ship.]
W2 - Flotilla
[A flotilla is formed of up to ten squadrons. Flotillas are balanced, containing squadrons of every category of ship, and are the first level of organization capable of effectively fighting an enemy fleet.]
W3 - Battle group
[A battle group consists of up to five flotillas. Battle groups are rarely found alone, usually accompanied by several others.]
W4 - Fleet group
[A fleet group is made up of multiple battle groups. Fleet groups are usually the layer of organization given objectives.]
W5 - Fleet
[A fleet has multiple fleet groups. Fleets are the highest command given besides command level C9.]
W6 - Armada
[Armadas contain up to eight fleets. They are utilized for offensive campaigns by officers with command level C9, and only a handful exist at any given point in history.]
W7 - System fleet
[A system fleet is a fleet that patrols and defends a planetary system. System fleets rarely leave their designated location, and are only found protecting important political, industrial, and civilian planets.]
W8 - Sector fleet
[Sector fleets have several dozen fleets that maintain security for a galactic sector. They are the largest level of fleet organization, with millions of ships and patrol hundreds of thousands of star systems every week.]

Hey there dude! This is an extremely slick Idea of yours!
If you would like to share some ideas, I would love it as I am working on a big fictional series which is an Sci - Fi - Action - Drama here http://renegaderad.deviantart.com/

You surely will get credit, if you would not like to share, its alright! But I gotta hand it to you this is awesome.
The thing is that it is 'sci fi' as mentioned above so I was having troublesome time making names and all.

Don't be afraid if you think I might cause problems :P It was just a simple request!

Regards, rad.
