Gravestones for Dead Players

With this datapack, whenever a player dies, a gravestone is created to store their items. This gravestone will save all the item entities in the vicinity of the players death. On multiplayer servers, players can only destroy their own gravestones (this can be disabled in-game).

What makes this datapack different?

Gravestones are a physical block that must be mined. They have a glowing effect to help you find them, which can be disabled. Only the grave's owner can actually break it to retrieve their items, although this can be optionally disabled. Gravestones will save players' items from any death (mobs, lava, falling, etc). Items are not stored as entities but as actual NBT data inside the grave. Players who fall into the void in the End will fall into the Overworld instead of dying and losing their items (this setting can also be disabled).

After installing this datapack in .minecraft/saves/<savename>/datapacks, reload the world. Any players who die after this will create a gravestone. If you want to change various settings about the datapack, run the command /trigger settings (you must be in creative to do this). Even if grave ownership is enabled, anyone in creative can destroy anyone's grave.

To Do List

  • Make End to Overworld fall-through optional.
  • Make gravestone glow effect optional.
  • Add adventure mode support.
  • Add option to save XP.

Update #1 : 01/16/2021 12:36:02 pmJan 16th

Added options to disable/enable End fallthrough to the Overworld and the glowing effect on graves. Simply run "/trigger settings" while in creative to change them.
When End fallthrough is enabled (default), players who fall into void are teleported to same X and Z location in the Overworld before they die, although at Y:256.
When the glowing grave effect is enabled (default), graves glow when there is a player within 50 blocks of them to make them easier to find.
Run "/reload" when updating this datapack to this version.

Not currently. I'll add it to the to-do list.
