Air Enchantments: Contrail + Slipstream

This pack adds two new trident enchantments, both of which are sky/air themed.

Contrail
  • Throw a trident into the air while at y=300 or above, and a sky bandit will swoop in and steal it
  • Killing the sky bandit will give you your trident back with the Contrail enchantment added
  • Throwing a contrail trident leaves a cloud trail behind that you can walk on
  • The cloud trail disperses after 10 seconds
  • Mutually exclusive with slipstream

Slipstream
  • Throw a trident into the air while at y=1000 or above, and a stronger sky bandit will steal it
  • Killing this sky bandit will give the trident back with the Slipstream enchantment added
  • When thrown, slipstream tridents leave a vortex trail behind them that activates when the trident lands or hits a mob.
  • Upon stepping into an activated trail, you'll be swiftly transported through it.
  • The slipstream trail lingers for 10 seconds and any mobs can pass through it while activated.
  • Mutually exclusive with contrail

This data pack might be incompatible with optifine, because (at least for me) the sky bandits don't render with optifine on, while they do render without it.

I was very skeptical about the concept at first, but wow. That video was pretty entertaining, well showcasing the enchantments. I can honestly see a practical use for these two enchantments in late-game and in general utility, Contrail as a mobility tool that services all of Minecraft's annoying mountains and valleys we'd usually slowly dirt bridge across, and Slipstream as a pseudo-ender pearl mechanic but with surprisingly a lot more to it. These names are honestly the coolest names anyone could ever think of, besides the pleasing aesthetic of the visual and audio effects. Very thematic with the whole mobility/air thing.

The whole Sky Bandit was smooth too, very unique kind of mini-boss fight of fighting in the air, making it really stand out. Using a drowned was smart too, getting them to throw ranged tridents. You know what would be cool. I haven't played the fight yet and maybe it's already good enough, but what if each respective sky bandit's trident was already enchanted with the enchantment they would drop? So the Contrail Sky Bandit would spread temporary blocks everywhere (maybe following that up with a secondary attack that takes advantage of that? Teleporting on top of those blocks? Edit: right, you can't setblocks above 256), while the Slipstream Sky Bandit would create slipstreams everywhere, this would already be a unique fight on its own, zipping everywhere.

Oh. And I also thought that because you get Contrail at y=300 but Slipstream at y=1000, it kind of makes it so that Slipstream is like a "better"(?) version of Contrail, but I could see them being worth the same in terms of in-game utility. Of course, Slipstream seems more valuable to us as developers, because we worked harder on it. Might it be a good idea to change the two bandit's spawning conditions to be unique in their own way? Instead of one just being at a much higher y co-ord than the other? It would certainly prove more tasty. Sorry, I just woke up.

All in all. Really love that it's one of those Datapacks that could work really well when I play with my friends, that anyone can go get this enchantment and use and enjoy it, but it doesn't penalise or affect anyone who doesn't want to meddle with it and focus on other parts of the game. Thank you! I’ll admit the sky bandit part was a bit rushed because I really needed to get a video out, and I may retouch it in the future so each trident’s method of obtaining actually feels unique. I’m glad you liked the video as well, I feel like I’m starting to get a bit better (though I’m still not perfect) and I’m glad others thing the same.
