This data pack will no longer be maintained, as it has been superseded by the Disable Hostile Grief data pack collection.

This data pack was created to allow Villagers to harvest crops, and Snow Golems to place snow layers, while also retaining the desirable features of gamerule mobGriefing = false. Note that this data pack sets the mobGriefing gamerule to true.

This data pack disables block destruction done by the following hostile mobs;
  • Creeper
  • Enderman
  • Ghast
  • Ender Dragon
  • Wither (but not its skull projectiles, or the initial explosion it has)
This data pack also prevents the following hostile mobs from picking up items;
  • Zombie
  • Drowned
  • Husk
  • Zombie Pigman
  • Zombie Villager
  • Skeleton
  • Stray
By default, all of the above listed griefing is prevented. If you'd like to change that, you can find the configuration file at "data\dhg\functions\config.mcfunction" within the zip file of Version 10+ of the data pack. Please note that due to the way Enderman, Ender Dragon, and Wither grief prevention works, it cannot be disabled/enabled in the same manner, and therefore Enderman, Ender Dragon, and Wither griefing will always be prevented while the data pack is enabled.

More information about data packs and how to use them can be found on the official Minecraft Wiki.

Hello!

Im using last version of this pack on an official 1.15.2 realm and having this issue:

Whenever me or a friend enters the nether, game there starts freezing until you cant barely move or eat, and nether portal stops working, not letting you come back to overworld again. Only happens on nether, if a player is on nether and other on the overworld, only the nether one struggles.
If I disable the pack before going into the nether, everything is perfect.
I personally think it has something to do with ghasts, usually problems appear by the time you 1st notice Ghast's sounds..

Cheers and thanks for the pack^^

Realms doesn't support all data pack functionality, so you may not be able to use it on a Realm. It does, however, work on normal Minecraft Java servers, so you could migrate your world to a different host to be able to use data packs without issues and not lose your progress and builds.

Hello!
They actually work fine in realms as far as i've tried, the only rule is to not have a lenght of +100 caracteres on folders and subfolders route.
Whatever, I've been using the same 4 packs (this one, your Anvil Mending one, a treecapitator one and the silk touch spawner one all 1.14 without problems, but when we changed to 1.15 this problem appeared..
I've tested it and it doesnt happen if you spawn ghasts on the overworld, so it has to be something nether related.. I will test disabling on the config file the one for ghasts, and check it.. Have you tested it in any way? If it generates lag on nether on 1.15.2?
Thanks for the reply and for the great packs!

When you upgraded your realm to 1.15, did you also upgrade the data pack?

Do creepers still cause damage to players?

Yes, creepers still damage entities (including players) when they explode!

Thanks so much for the heads up! I'll definitely be suggesting this to our server community.

Hey there,

I've gone a little crazy for the past few days, because my map became unplayable due to super high entities counts in some areas ( kept growing to 20 000 - 30 000 entities ). See the reddit thread for more details : https://www.reddit.com/r/Minecraft/comments/c6izk2/my_entity_count_is_going_nuts_and_taking_a_toll/

Basically I've solved my issue my removing your pack and /kill @e[type=area_effect_cloud]. Doing the command without removing your pack helped for a few minutes, until they just respawned again.

So yeah, sorry to bring the bad news dude. Your pack never caused a problem for dozens of hours on this map, but now it does.

Yes, I am aware of the issue. It only affects servers with a render distance lower than 8, so I recommend setting your server's render distance equal to or higher than that.

Cool datapack, but how can I change the file so that villagers will harvest things?

Villagers do harvest things with this data pack installed. If you're seeing farming villagers standing in a field not harvesting crops, it's because many villager behaviors have changed in 1.14. As of writing (1.14.2), they only harvest and plant at certain times of the day, and only within a certain range (I can't remember exactly, but it's small) of their compost bin work station.

This seems to be not working on servers. The pack crashes my server, leaving 16000 area effect clouds behind. I had to kill them and uninstall the datapack.

Would love to see an update for servers, if possible.

It works just fine on vanilla servers running on Windows. What server software are you using, and what OS is it running on?

Please give the most recent version (Version 10) a try on your server, and let me know if it still crashes.

Hi, its me again. Sorry that I didnt answer during 1.14.2, since during 1.14.2 mobspawning was completely broken, as you might know. I am now playing on 1.14.3 Pre-2 and went on finally testing your pack (Version 11) - the server crashed after about 5 minutes after installing the pack and reloading. I removed the pack, restarted the server and killed 9400 area effect clouds.

All other datapacks i use (about 50) do not crash the server. Neither do they use Area effect clouds. So I'd assume it still has something to do with not killing the effect cloud after a certain condition is met.

I do not support, nor attempt to update to, snapshots and pre-releases, because there's too many bugs and changes that might be reverted in the next full release.

I've heard from one other person running a Linux 1.14 server that some data packs are causing their server to crash, but the crash logs aren't very informative about what parts of the data packs it might be. So it sounds like some fundamental bug in the Linux build of the 1.14 server jar.

If you've got the crash log, I recommend posting it to the Minecraft bug tracker so Mojang know about it and can fix it sometime in the future. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Works on 1.14 :)
I couldn't find any other datapacks/plugins to disable solely creeper explosions(or rather their holes) so your datapack was the second best thing.
It would be great if there would be a way for us to select that we'd only be preventing creeper explosions and nothing else/select which things we want to have prevented.

Good news! You can now pick and choose which mobs you want to disable the griefing of with my new Disable Hostile Griefing data pack collection, which splits the functionality of this data pack into several different ones.

Such a config is on my to-do list for this data pack! Although I'm currently busy with another one, so no promises as to when this will get done, sorry.

Will creepers still do player damage like hurt them but not break blocks?

Yes, that's correct; the creeper explosions still happen and still damage all entities, but don't break blocks.

loving this so far! two questions tho. first, does this make it so creepers always explode on death? i've noticed that even if i kill them from a distance, they explode(not damaging the environment, but definitely critters) and second, does this prevent zombies and such from stomping on turtle eggs?

Thanks for letting me know about the creepers, I hadn't seen this happen in the most recent version of the mod, but you are correct. As for the turtle eggs, I don't think there's any way I can prevent zombies from breaking them.

The creepers exploding on player kill should be solved now (Version 7), but no luck on the turtle eggs.
