Progression Overhaul
Stone Age
Wooden tools are replaced with flint tools, craftable from the inventory.
Intricate Survival - A Realistic Hardcore Experience Minecraft Data Pack
Plant fiber now drops from ferns, and is needed for flint tools and torches.
Intricate Survival - A Realistic Hardcore Experience Minecraft Data Pack
Torches require charcoal, and coal is purely for fuel.
Clay is now used to make terracotta jars, pots, and furnaces.

Bronze Age
Cassiterite and Chalcocite is introduced for tin and copper respectively.
Smithing tables now have a use for the early- and mid-game.
Bronze tools and armor replaces stone tools and gold armor.
New extensive casting system introduced for all metals.

Iron Age
Iron ore smelts into an iron bloom, which must be further refined.
Iron and diamond ore is replaced with hematite and magnetite respectively.

Steel replaces diamond.

Reworked Game Mechanics
Resource Gathering
  • Wooden logs don't drop without an axe.
  • Wooden planks drop from stripped logs, and are no longer craftable.
  • Most ores drop nuggets, which must be further crafted into ores.
  • All Crops grow slower.
  • Potatoes, carrots, and onions (beets) now require a hoe to get all their drops.
  • Wheat now requires a sword to drop wheat.
  • Animals spawn less frequently.
  • Animal loot is more useful.

Sleeping and Health System
  • Health no longer regenerates. Golden Apples and potions now have a use for the late game.
  • Not sleeping gives you heavy drawbacks, and will eventually kill you. (toggleable)
  • Sleeping now regenerates 1 heart. (toggleable)
  • Rum, which gives regeneration but immobilizes the user for 1 minute, can now be found in the world.
Blocks Have Worth
  • Campfires are useful, and are needed to light 'Unlit Torches' the rest of the game.
  • Crafting tables require leather.
  • Bricks are needed for furnaces, giving clay a use.
  • Barrels require iron.
  • Chests require steel.
  • Beds now require a layer of wheat.
  • The Furnace, Smoker, and Blast Furnace now have longer cooktimes, and heavier restrictions.
  • TNT is now made with 'Trotyl', made by Sulphur and Saltpeter.
  • Jukeboxes are now made with a copper block.
  • Stonecutters can now be used to get 4 planks from a log without stripping it.
  • Enchanting tables require a lapiz block and crying obsidian.
Mob Spawning
  • Sheep spawn more frequently in higher altitudes, and less further down.
  • Pigs mainly spawn in forests and swamps.
  • Cows spawn more frequently on plains and on the savanna.
  • Wolves spawn in more biomes.

Custom World Generation
Global Changes
Sea and Ground Level raised to Y=96
Caves and ravines are now bigger and deeper than ever.

Mountains Plateau at Y=160 and Peak at Y=230.
Mountains are now a hindrance, and nothing to take lightly.

Wide, Traversable, Interconnected Rivers
Rivers are now a viable way to get around the landscape, especially around mountains.

Ore Veins are Larger and Rarer
Ore veins now more closely mimics real life veins.

More Grass and Foliage.
All Biomes feature more grass, and some biomes are more tightly packed with trees and leaves.

Cassiterite (tin) and Chalcocite (copper)

Biome Changes
  • Color change, slightly more yellow.

1. Download "Intricate Survival Datapacks (UNZIP)" and "Intricate Survival Resources (UNZIP)" above.

2. Make sure you install this datapack in a clean, new world to get the best experience. Exit to menu before following the next steps.

3. Click "Create New World", then click "Data Packs" to open the new world's datapack folder. Copy and paste "Intricate Survival Datapacks (UNZIP)" into the opened folder. Right click the file and choose "extract all". Click "Done" and "Create New World".

4. Oped the menu by pressing "ESC" and choose: Options -> Resource Packs -> Open resource packs folder. Copy and paste "Intricate Survival Resources (UNZIP)" into the opened folder. Right click the file and choose "extract all".

6. Choose the resources and click "Done"

7. You can now enter the world and start a new grand adventure.
  • 01/06/2020 - Initial upload.
  • 02/06/2020 - Added Rum and skeleton skulls as a loot in shipwreck chests. Rum serves as early game golden apples, with heavy drawback, discouraging in combat use. Designed to make hardcore survival feasible. Skeleton skulls serve no purpose yet, but might give them custom enchantments with a catch in the future.
  • 06/06/2020 - Nerfed Rum, added Cursed Skulls as a random loot in dungeons and shipwrecks. Added bones to drop from every mob. Reduces randomticks from 3 to 1, making crops grow slower to accommodate all the bones. Gold no longer even starts to smelt in a regular furnace. Added ability to smelt iron and gold armor back into ingots. Pigs now drop 'Pig Tail' a retextured fermented spider eye, giving a reason to breed every animal.
  • 07/06/2020 - fixed Sunflowers giving you Trotyl, fixed some broken recipes.
  • 09/06/2020 - Added sleeping mechanics.
  • 12/06/2020 - SUPPORT FOR 1.16 - Netherwart blocks in the nether now drop sticks, Quartz now drops flint. Gold can be cooked on the campfire by creating "gold quartz". Nerfed Cursed Skulls, added Cursed Wither Skulls
  • 27/06/2020 - fixed sleeping not healing you, changed the recipe for beds.
  • 12/07/2020 - Added custom Pillager Outpost structures, changed supply chests in shipwrecks to barrels/crates and made them spawn in clusters of 3. Torches now drop unlit torches upon breaking.
  • 11/08/2020 - Updated pillager settlement roofs, added world generation files, ground and sea level changed to 96, iron and coal ore spawn in large and rarer veins, changes to savanna and swamp biome, updated pictures and descriptions of all data- and resourcepacks.
  • 30/08/2020 - Removed diamonds, added a metallurgy system, changed ores textures, changed how wooden planks are acquired. Made changes to datapack structure to more closely follow the datapack conventions.
  • 31/08/2020 - Fixed recipe advanements for the custom recipes, updated the torch texture when held. Added descriptive pictures to explain new metallurgy system.
  • 01/09/2020 - Updated the world generation. Badlands and desert got more vegetation, updated cactus height, cactus and dead bush textures. Fixed enchanting table recipe advancement.
  • 06/09/2020 - Fixed trotyl recipe, tied the recipe to an advancement.
  • 07/09/2020 - Made better netherite textures, updated connected textures for nether, added emissive texture to the nether, and added custom textures for river vegetation.

Would you ever release this as a mod on forge? I love using it with mods but for some reason dimension mods dont work with this datapack on my world.

Thanks. If you like this concept you should check out the modpacks TERRAFIRMACRAFT and SEVTECH:AGES. While terrafirmacraft technically is a single mod, it changes the whole experience of the game to the same degree as the latter.
