Many More Biomes is a data pack that adds 43 additional biomes to the Minecraft overworld. I plan to add many more and update existing ones in the future, as I come up with new ideas and Mojang adds new world gen features.

Due to the only way it is currently possible to add new biomes, the biome layout is different than normal. Biome sizes are inconsistent and I had to remove beach and river biomes.

This pack is made for 1.16.2 to 1.16.5. It will not work in 1.16.1 or 1.17 snapshots.

HOW TO INSTALL
  1. Download the pack file.
  2. Open Minecraft, then click 'Create New World' and select 'Data Packs'.
  3. Drag the file to the Minecraft window or choose 'Open pack folder', then copy 'many_more_biomes.zip' file to that folder.
  4. Select the 'Many more biomes' data pack and click 'Done'.
  5. Create the world.
BIOMES

List of biomes
  • Volcano: Has surface covered in blackstone, basalt and magma blocks, with many lava lakes. A home to magma cubes.
  • Petrified Forest: A forest with trees made of stone. Doesn't spawn creepers and endermen.
  • Flower Meadow: A biome similar to plains, but with a lot more flowers and bee trees.
  • Tall Tree Forest: A forest biome with much taller trees.
  • Grassland Hills: Similar to plains, but with more trees and more hilly.
  • Scorched Wasteland: A barren land with an occasional dead tree. The favourite biome of pillagers. Rarely generates pillager settlements.
  • Corrupted Ocean: An ocean with purple water that spawns guardians and more drowned. Has lots of magma blocks and some sponges on ocean floor.
  • Bush Hills: A grassy landscape covered in oak shrubs and berry bushes.
  • Tropical Islands: A warm ocean with frequent islands and palm trees.
  • Marshland: A colder swamp biome with lots of water puddles, lilly pads, sugar cane, clay patches and willow trees.
  • Boreal Lakes: A taiga with many lakes, larger trees and more mushrooms.
  • Cherry Blossom Grove: A biome with pink-leaved cherry trees, mossy rocks and many pumpkins.
  • Muhsroom Woods: A variation of mushroom fields/mooshroom island with taller tree-like muhsrooms.
  • Monsoon Forest: A jungle style forest with dense tall trees.
  • Glacial Mountains: Taller mountains with green valleys and frozen peaks.
  • Shrub Desert: An outback-like biome with red sand, dry grass and shrubbery. You can find tribal villages there.
  • Fertile Fields: A plain-like biome with patches of crops, lots of fancy trees and occasional hay piles.
  • Gravel Desert: A desert variant with gravel instead of sand.
  • Ocean Spikes: An ocean biome with tall stone spikes and uneven underwater terrain.
  • Snowy Shrubland: A transition between tundra and snowy taiga. It has a snow-covered terrain with short trees.
  • Red Maple Grove: A biome with red-leaved maple trees, stone rocks and many pumpkins.
  • Prismarine Cliffs: A biome with massive cliffs made of prismarine and sandstone.
  • Dirt Pit: Dirt-covered landscape with spikes, mud pools and occasional slime pools.
  • Sunken Forest: An underwater forest with trees made of coral blocks.
  • Lush Mesa: A mesa variant with grass, trees and different colored terracotta.
  • Eucalyptus Forest: A forest with dry grass and tall eucalyptus trees.
  • Larch Mountains: A mountainous biome with dry trees.
  • Withered Woods: A spooky forest with some wither roses.
  • Lush Cliffs: Lush vegetation with tall stone spikes coming from the ground.
  • Sequoia Woodland: Forest of giant sequoia trees, some are more than 70 blocks tall.
  • Verdant Springs: A vibrant forest with sections of springs.
  • Aspen Hills: Hilly landscape, covered with slim aspen trees of varying heights.
  • Maquis Shrubland: A mediterranean shrubland with occasional mediterranean cypress trees.
  • Glowing Forest: Magical forest with occasional shroomlights in tree canopies.
  • Ancient Oak Valley: A plains-style biome with more lakes and giant oak trees.
  • Highland Tundra: Cold mountains with red grass.
  • Wooded Plateau: An elevated forest with rivers running through it.
  • Mangrove Swamp: Wetland with mangrove trees.
  • Primeval Forest: Dense forest with a variety of tree types and undergrowth.
  • Icicle Forest: Snowy forest with icicles hanging from trees.
  • Steppe: Dry grassland with occasional shrubs and many types of animals.
  • Wetland: A woodland with many lakes and lots of clay.
  • Overgrown Sands: A mixture of desert and plain vegetation with tall sandstone spikes.

Note: the biome layout is always the same because I have to specify a fixed seed to modify it.

COMPATIBILITY
  • This pack will conflict with any other data pack that changes the Minecraft overworld dimension.
  • This data pack likely won't work on modded servers such as Spigot, Paper, etc. It should work fine on vanilla 1.16.2-1.16.5 servers. It also currently doesn't work at all on realms.
  • Many more biomes is compatible with any data pack that modifies vanilla biomes without changing the overworld dimension, such as William Wyther's overhauled overworld or New Vanilla.

Tip: If you are exploring, use the /locatebiome command to find new biomes faster. If you want to take a closer look at a specific biome, create a single biome world.

Do you plan on adding Spigot/Paper support eventually? Love this datapack, but losing the optimization can be really annoying.

It's been a while since I tested it, but at the time datapack worked with fabric. With some performance mods (lithium etc.) you can get deacent performance.
Besides, if you're going to use a custom worldgen datapack in survival I recommend using a less experimental datapack, such as Overhauled Overworld.

You're not supposed to unzip the file. Just put in the "datapacks" folder, zipped.

(By the way, if you run into an error where the spawn chunks aren't generated with mmb, go into the game files and delete the folder "region." The error happened twice with my server, so I'm just trying to spare you a few headaches.)

I have it with my server and it looks fine. Minecraft generates a new region folder in its place, but with the spawn chunks generated correctly. Another option, which I haven't tried, is to create a singleplayer world and upload it to a server--if you don't do this, the world (but not biome layout) will look different than a singleplayer worl on the same seed. But I have not tried this second option.

there is a setting in biomes called "grass_color" and "foliage_color" so you can change it for a specific biome

Hey. Great datapack. I would like to have it on my generated map. I would like to increase the border via 100 and add this datapack and run worldborder. Would it work and generate the new biomes and not replace my old biomes or it will generate the full world?

I'm not exactly sure what your question is. If you add this datapack to an already generated world it won't override existing terrain, but it will create flat walls and biome borders on the edges of previously generated chunks.

I have a server. Here is the dynmap of it 34.118.12.151:7223. And I would like to use the datapack on this server and regen the new biomes outside the circle border is it possible?

As I said, the datapack doesn't change existing terrain at all. If you want to keep terrain within a circle, delete all generated chunks outside of that circle, but keep in mind it'll create ugly sharp borders on edges of the border.

I don't recommend you install mmb on an already generated world. In general I don't even recommend using it on any long-term worlds because worldgen datapacks are currently considered experimental.

Depending on what kind of server you're using, the datapack may not actually work. If you're going to do any experiments with the datapack I highly recommend you make a world backup.

Did you add an updated datapack version to a previously generated world? If so that's a common issue and it can't be fixed easily.

If you're exploring the world, then generation is slower than in vanilla. Otherwise (if you're not exploring new terrain) it shouldn't cause any additional lag.

Hi, it's me again :)

I recently discoverd "Vanilla layering simulation" (I am speed btw - "posted 8 months ago"), and I wondered if you ever considered using this method. As I travel through your biomes in present version of the pack, seeing a raw border between glowing forest and mesa plateau is just painful, for obvious reasons. Also I miss rivers so much.
Also, as I recently spend much time building structures, I thought I could make a pack related to yours as "more structures add-on" ro "William Wythers' overhauled overworld"?
Only under your permission and with your ideas if you wish.* And third thing I wanted to say/ask: have you ever planned having a discord server?

* at this point I also realised I'm just a parasite living on other peoples' biome packs :'( . Am I bad?

I've seen Vanilla layered simulation when it was first released and it has a lot of problems that my layout has, especially biome sizes being very inconsistent (especially occasional super-tiny biomes), biome borders being very straight and biome shapes being very long and narrow. Its main upside is that it also has rivers and beaches.

I feel like currently biome layout is the main issue of this datapack. I've been trying to think of a way to make it better for some time but I can't think of a way to work around the quirks of multi_noise. I could make it better, but probably not by much. Hopefully we will get configurable vanilla_layered in 1.17.

Also there's nothing wrong with making addons for other people's packs, for example in modding communities it's quite common to make addons for popular mods. In a way, mods and datapacks are just addons to the vanilla game, so if that's the case I'm also a parasite living on Mojang's game.

For some reason every time I load the datapack while creating a world it has the same biome distribution, different seed but the biomes are the same. Maybe the trees for example are slightly different but the biome itself is always the same. Could you fix this?

The world is always the same because the biome layout always generates with the same seed. There is currently no way to change that because you need to specify a seed (blame Mojang, not me).
To change the seed, open data/minecraft/dimension/overworld.json. You should see two instances of "seed": 0. You have to replace both of them with "seed": <random number>.
