It began with the need of a mining dimension for my survival world. I opened the Planet Minecraft webpage and searched for mining dimension datapacks that are compatible with 1.18. I found some, but there all for 1.17 or prior versions and didn't work in my survival world. So I started to code my own datapack...

When should you use this datapack?
If you want to mine all the resources but you don't want to leave an ugly hole next to your bases, you should mine it in a separate mining dimension. It is 1.18 compatible!

What does this datapack do?
This datapack creates 3 mining dimensions separate from each other. Therefore, each dimension has a mining version, however, for mining dimensions, different seeds are used. After teleporting, you'll get Resistance 255 for 10 seconds, therefore, you are safe against mobs when you teleport during night. When teleporting to the mining nether, you'll also get fire resistance for 60 seconds in case lava is all around you.

How do I access the mining dimensions and get back?
Overworld to Mining overworld: You have to place a chest at 0 63 0 and then, put a wooden pickaxe inside it. You'll get immediately teleported.
Mining overworld to Overworld: You have to place a chest at 0 67 0 and then, put a wooden pickaxe inside it. You'll get immediately teleported.
Nether to Mining nether and vice versa: You have to place a chest at 0 31 0 and then, put a wooden pickaxe inside it. You'll get immediately teleported.
End to Mining end and vice versa: You have to place a chest at 0 80 0 and then, put a wooden pickaxe inside it. You'll get immediately teleported. Please note that the mining end spawns no dragon and no portal, but you can get back by this chest method.
Each time you teleport, you'll get the wooden pickaxe back.

Currently unfixed bugs:
Spawning the first time in a mining dimension does NOT spawn a chest and when going to mining nether, you could either fall in lava or be stuck inside netherrack. To avoid this, you should bring a chest with you and a good pickaxe to mine out. If you want to go to the mining nether the first time, be sure to drink a fire resistance potion before you enter it.

The wooden pickaxe appears as a ghostblock. Open a GUI (e.g. chest or inventory) and it becomes visible.
Sometimes, especially when teleporting the first time to a mining dimension, the wooden pickaxe could be lost. Therefore, bring an extra wooden pickaxe with you.
XP levels and points are invisible after switching between normal and mining dimensions, but are still there. Although the anvil might show you a red line "Enchantment Cost" it's still possible to enchant if you had enough levels. And if you leave the world and join again, XP are back. And even if you get XP (e.g. after killing a mob or taking something out of a furnace), XP are back, too.

3 Update Logs

v2.0 : by BlackDawn 03/17/2022 4:25:44 amMar 17th, 2022

Has been updated to 1.18.2, because seed 0 now is no longer useless, random seeds are no longer possible. But there should be a new way in the current snapshot 22w11a, so in the next major update this should be possible once again.

Yes, mining dimensions look like the normal dimensions, but with random seeds. You can use the mining dimension for mining resources. If you don't use such a mining dimension, you'll have to fly away very far with an elytra from your base or have to dig out an ugly hole next to your base. Some other mining dimensions have e.g. an increased rate for spawning diamonds, and then you could farm hundreds of diamonds in a couple of minutes, but that would be cheating in my opinion.
