Desert Survival is a passion project, one that I began because I love Minecraft in spite of its flaws. It is a truly limitless game, one that is a veritable playground for gamers, artists, developers, and game designers alike, but I am by far not the first to highlight its content bloat and multitude of unfinished or dissatisfactory gameplay elements. Desert Survival aims to amend these issues by stripping Minecraft's content down to the limit and building it back up again. The design principles of this datapack are as follows:
Desert Survival is a passion project, one that I began because I love Minecraft in spite of its flaws. It is a truly limitless game, one that is a veritable playground for gamers, artists, developers, and game designers alike, but I am by far not the first to highlight its content bloat and multitude of unfinished or dissatisfactory gameplay elements. Desert Survival aims to amend these issues by stripping Minecraft's content down to the limit and building it back up again. The design principles of this datapack are as follows:
- Gameplay is difficult; you certainly won't find yourself in full iron armor within the first few days (or ever).
- Gameplay is unique; Minecraft's typically overshadowed features are brought into the spotlight, and new vanilla-adjacent items and mechanics are added to enhance the breadth of playstyles. Even within the datapack, multiple progression pathways and rewarding side quests are present.
- Gameplay is thorough; I've heard Minecraft referred to as an "inch-deep ocean" in terms of its features and mechanics. I have worked hard to correct that.
In this datapack, you will:
- Live in the desert! There's no other biomes!
- Upgrade your tools, weapons, and armor with the smithing table
- Make potions and food from mob drops
- Face down elder guardians and piglin brutes
- Sift through trail ruins for ancient maps
- Finally have a reason to mine copper
- Do all this and more!
Check out the Modrinth page linked above for gameplay tips and a progression walkthrough!
