The Nether is a strange place. Water evaporates upon contact, yet the human body, comprised of 60% water, doesn't evaporate. Let's fix that.

This datapack changes how ALL Netherite Items handle fire and lava. This datapack also makes you burn in the Nether whenever you enter!

Resource Pack: Using Optifine is required for custom GUI's and Armors
Datapack: Unzip, drag & drop into datapack folder, or into the datapack screen in the "Create New World" screen

Full Feature List

Key Notes:

  • Making a lesser version of an icy totem will allow you to make it to the Nether safely, i.e. Icy Soul or Frozen Spirit (Gold and Diamond, respectively).
  • The Netherite Forge is capable of giving a better return on your Ancient Debris than a normal furnace:
    1-3 scrap per debris
    1-3 nuggets per scrap
  • Chiseled Polished Blackstone needs to be the last block placed in the Forge. (This may be changed in a future update.)
  • Without an icy totem, you will need to wear a full set of Netherite Armor, which prevents burning in the Nether.
  • Icy totems lose ALL enchantments when used.

Hello, and welcome to my datapack: Real Nether

Icy Totems

Netherite Forge

The Nether has always been a dangerous place, but it just got a whole lot more dangerous. You can't safely enter the Nether without the proper protection from either an icy totem or a full set of Netherite armor (wearing a full set of Netherite armor prevents you from burning in the nether, besides lava and fire that is).

If a single piece of Netherite armor is missing you will start to take damage

If there is anything that you would like clarified, don't hesitate to ask! I'm all ears.

I don't quite understand some of the differences in the new items:

First of all, what is the difference between the different icy totems? Do they last for less time? Do they grant less protection?
There seems to be new a new difference between netherite and netherite alloy introduced, which is cool, but its not really clear to me what the difference is. Is it just that you don't burn in the nether when using full real netherite? I understood that there is also something with netherite alloy burning in fire slowly and real netherite not burning, but again, it's not quite clear to me.

There are a lot of cool features in this that I really wanna use, but it's all a bit unclear, like the comments below me have already stated. I suggest adding a more detailed features list in the description which explains all the stuff that is complicated. (Maybe structure it so that the first thing you say is that you always burn in the nether, since that is supposedly the main point and every other thing only makes sense if you know this.)

I like the concept and the datapack probably is really cool, but please give offer a clearer explanation.

I would say that there are actually quite a few features that I've failed to address. I'll get right on that! Thanks for the suggestion!

So if you need netherite scrap and blackstone to craft the things needed to survive the nether, how do you obtain them?

Ah, I see. I suppose I didn't quite explain that too well.

I have mixed feelings about this but the concept is interesting but not so much in the execution of the process. Netherite is fine as it is but having a weaker version of it is a nice touch. The furnace design feels over kill and doesn’t make much sense in the way. And the Oder of things looks and feels too confusing. But I love the idea and the code of how you did things.

Yikes, I missed quite a few details in my explanation.
The Netherite Forge (I assume that's what you're talking about) gives a better return on your Ancient Debris than a normal furnace does.

1-3 nugget per scrap
