Required Resource Pack

This data pack is specifically created for use in Rings SMP. If you enjoy it, please do join the server!

This data pack is intended specifically for use on servers, but the vast majority of its features require op to be implemented in your world.

You are HIGHLY advised to contact me if you plan to use it in a server, because a lot of the features might be confusing to use, and I can help you to set up the features so that it gives your playerbase the full modified feel that the data pack is supposed to add.

Also, I would love to join your server myself, so please contact me if you're using it!

If you want to use this in a server, you have permission on the following conditions:

  • Nothing related to this data pack will be involved in any payments whatsoever
This means that you are NOT allowed to give ranks like wizard, Sauron, Nazgul, etc. in exchange for money, and you are not allowed to make them easier to obtain for people with any paid privileges. This also applies to all the other features of the data packs.
  • Clear credit is given to me as the creator of the data pack
You must make it clear that I made the data pack. On the server page you must explicitly state that the custom mobs and features are made by me.

Specific details

  • Spawners
The mobs don't spawn naturally, so you'll need spawn eggs or spawners to spawn them. A mob with the tag "SpawnOrc" will be instantly killed and an Orc will be spawned where it was. Similarly, this happens for all the other mobs. However, if you are using a spawner you should contact me to know how you can prevent the mobs from spawning endlessly
  • Race-ranks
Race-ranks are given simply by giving the player a tag associated with the race-rank. For most ranks, the tags are straightforward, like "Elf", "Dwarf", "Human", etc. but in some cases they need multiple tags, or the tags might not be entirely obvious.
  • Coins
The intended currency with this data pack is coins, so if you make traders they should probably deal in coins. Contact me if you can't figure out how to make the coins gotten from the data pack work with villagers.
  • Enchantments
Enchanting is disabled in the data pack, so if you make an enchanted item without giving it the "enchanted:1b" item tag it will simply disappear. If you want to re-enable enchanting, contact me so that I can send you a modified version of the data pack.

If you are using this on a server, do not ignore the above spoiler

Enchantments Disabled
Any item that does not have the NBT tag "enchanted:1b" will be deleted if a player tries wearing or holding it in either hand.

Custom Race-Ranks
There are (as of now) 5 Race-Ranks:
  • Elf
  • Dwarf
  • Orc
  • Human
  • Hobbit
You can join a race-rank by giving yourself the corresponding tag (/tag @s add Elf puts you in the Elf race-rank, but doesn't remove you from any existing ones, and similarly for all other ones. /tag @s remove Elf will remove you from the Elf race-rank)

Custom Kits
Once you choose a race-rank, you can do /trigger rsmp.kit to get your race-rank exclusive kit! The items of this kit can only be used by members of that race-rank, and will be destroyed if any other player picks them up. This trigger can be used any number of times.

Custom Mobs
There are, as of now, 3 custom mobs - Orcs, Dwarves and Elves. Elves and Dwarves are hostile to any player that is not part of their race-rank. Orcs are hostile to Elves, Hobbits and Dwarves (including players of these race-ranks). To get the spawn eggs:
/function rings_smp:spawn_egg/orc
/function rings_smp:spawn_egg/elf
/function rings_smp:spawn_egg/dwarf
Elves will use bows against orcs.

Planned features include making Elves and Dwarves not kill Elves, Dwarves, Hobbits or Humans without provocation, a few exclusive and more powerful race-ranks, and more!

Fire Drakes
These fiery dragons may be smaller than their cousin Smaug, and weaker too, but they are still a force to be reckoned with!

The fiery beasts have several deadly attacks:
  • Bite - The dragon's melee attack, dealing large amounts of damage.
  • Fire-Breath -
The dragon shoots five explosive fireballs, followed by a stream of
smaller fireballs. These smaller fireballs are deadly to shields - Just
two of the fireball streams can destroy an undamaged shield.
  • Roar -
Similar to ravagers, the beast may be stunned after having its bite
blocked by a shield, after which it roars, dealing damage and huge
The beast also has unique behaviour and traits:
  • Flight - The beast spends most of its time flying.
  • Landing - The drake will occasionally land (upon which it will use its bite attack more commonly)
  • Toughened Hide
    - The dragon has tough hide that is impenetrable in its thickest parts.
The only way to kill it is to either use damage that ignores the armour
(lightning, poison, etc.) or to attack its weak parts. The middle area
of the dragon is the most vulnerable.
  • Drops - Drops lots of coins, along with some gold, diamonds, cooked chicken, and leather.

Flying monsters, perfect mounts for the Nazgul! They target all Free People.

The beasts have a bunch of attacks:
  • Screech
    - The beast makes a horrifying sound (yes its as bad as ghast-hurting)
that strikes fear into the hearts of its foes, giving them weakness and
slowness, and making them hear eerie noises.
  • Bite - The beast bites its prey, dealing a decent amount of damage. This is its most common attack.
  • Roar -
If the beast's bite is blocked with a shield, it has a chance to get
stunned for 2 seconds. After this, it lets out a massive roar, striking
fear into the hearts of its foes for 10 seconds, and knocking back
nearby entities, dealing damage. This is almost identical to the
    ravager's roar attack.
Along with these, they have some unique traits:
  • Flight -
The beast has the ability to fly effortlessly through the air. It can
fly towards targets (outrunning a sprinting player) to use its bite
attack. It will also occasionally land.
  • Toughened Hide -
The beast has hide tougher than the strongest armour in many spots. The
only way to kill it is to either use armour-piercing means (fire,
lightning, explosions, etc.) or by hitting the weak spots of its hide.
The hide is thickest below the wings, and at the neck and tail. The hide
also makes it difficult to kill using a bow, as arrows bounce of all
but the weak spots of the hide.
  • Nazgul Mount -
If a Nazgul-ranked player approaches, it will grow a saddle out of
nowhere. The Nazgul can then mount the Fellbeast, upon which it will fly
in the direction that its rider looks.

Have fun!

Fortunately, despite all my most wicked efforts, they don't usually target the player and usually just go for other Orcs, so as long as you keep a safe distance, you should be safe (and also you can pick their drops up after the skirmish)

Also, they're only really common in very large groups (I mean HUGE grounds, like 30-40 Orcs)

The fell beasts?

You have to have either the "Sauron", "Nazgul", or "Khamul" tag to ride them.
