Ever since the Soul Lantern was added to the game, I've wanted to make a lantern wisp. The idea has grown since then, but at its core is that little wisp that makes the world feel just a bit more magical.



Soul Lantern Wisps (aka Soul Poes) playfully wander the Soul Sand Valleys. They are friendly most of the time, but stay too close for too long and eventually it will either try to strike you with the wither effect or a harmless pretend attack. Killing one drops 0-3 coal. Additionally, it's body will fall to the ground and shatter like a splash potion (if your too close you will get the wither effect). If you watch closely, you may even see one skim across the surface of the soul sand kicking up soul particles.


Skeletal Poes are skeletons with a soul lantern in their ribcage. This provides the skeleton with knockback resistance. Additionally, the glowing effect will get absorbed by the lantern, which helps with identifying them. When killed, the lantern falls to the ground shattering and inflicting wither effect if your standing too close. If a fortress extends into a soul sand valley, the wither skeletons can spawn as a wither variant of skeletal poes. (In theory, it should be able to combine with skeleton and wither skeleton changes in other datapacks).

The mob is an item, so you can change what it looks like by adding a custom model for items using this id number. Also applies to the lantern in the ribcage of the skeletal poes.


Do they spawn enough? Too much? Should they be closer to the ground? Is there something I should change to make it more farmable? Tell me below!

+ The outline of the glowing effect is now the correct shape for soul poes.

+ When a skeletal poe gets the glowing effect, it will be absorbed by its soul lantern

+ Soul Poes and the Soul Lanterns in skeletal poes now glow cyan when they have the glowing effect

+ When a Soul Poe or Skeletal poe gets the glowing effect, nearby ones within a 5 block radius also get it.

+ Fixed bug where Withering Skeletal Poes were spawning too often in nether fortresses that reach into soul sand valleys.

Seems like a really fun pack!
Definitely reminds me of Twilight Princess, love the idea, and the execution looks good!

Haven't tried it out cause I haven't played Minecraft in ages, but hey! Definitely looks like a promising lil pack!

The idea of having a wisp as your guide is really cool; kind of similar to dolphin mechanics with buried treasure. I'm not sure I want to change 'this' wisp, but I'll definitely consider it for a future one. Mind if I ask why biomes in particular?
