Tougher Zombies: Apocalypse
This is a remake of a pack I made for 1.16, back when I had just started making datapacks.
Changes to Zombies:
- Creepers, skeletons, spiders, and pillagers in the overworld are replaced with adult zombies.
- Zombies no longer burn in the daylight.
- Around 4 in 10 zombies have a special ability.
Types of Zombies:
Igniter: Carries a flint and steel. Lights opponents on fire when it hits them.
Boomer: Wears a tnt on its head. Explodes in proximity to opponents
Runner: Carries a firework rocket. Propels itself forward every so often.
Trapper: Carries a cobweb and a slime ball. Throws cobwebs onto the feet of opponents
Reeler: Carries a fishing rod and wears a turtle helmet. Grapples onto opponents
Armorer: Carries an anvil and iron axe. Gives normal zombies armor.
Healer: Carries a brewing stand and golden apple. Heals injured zombies.
Strengthener: Carries a Blaze Rod. Strengthens nearby zombies with effects.
Tank: Wears iron armor and a blast furnace. Carries an iron sword. Has more armor points and deflects arrows.
Flag: Wears the zombie army flag.

However, it has flaws.
Firstly, enemy attackers have no means of circumventing low-effort defense like fences, pillaring or water - they cannot climb or shoot over the former like spiders or skeletons, and are sinking defenseless in the latter, unlike drowned that while vulnerable without trident can still swim up and attack you if you're too indifferent to it. It's just braindead simple to defend any static position from zombies with the lightest kind of fortifications.
Secondly, zombies seem to oddly change types when in water due to changed drowning mechanism - it's visible when approaching underwater ruins.
Thirdly, zombies have customized loot - but it's not mentioned anywhere what kind of loot it is for any mob, including any rare loot - this one is a bit unclear.
