Do you remember how nights in old versions of Minecraft were terrifying, where you'd hide in a hole or your quickly put together base?
Well, that's all gone now.
But, this datapack aims to bring back the fear and challenge once again!
And, maybe more treacherous depending on your preferred difficulty setting.
As a select number of enemy mobs will now have increased follow ranges, with the exception of mobs like enderman (they already have that covered).
Additionally, many of the hostile mobs you thought couldn't run up to your doorstep and camp you?
Yeah, they can do that now. Every hostile mob will know to target your location, and your friend's locations if you play with them.
They'll target the closest player to them, so it may be advantageous to split up, or, stick together and fight the horde of monsters together.
I'd suggest the latter, as there is strength in numbers, the monsters know that for a fact.
So, pick your fights wisely.
And now let's get to the zombies...
Zombies, zombies, zombies... they used to be scary and challenging, but you can easily run from them since the addition of sprinting to Minecraft. To help them, I made it so every zombie can break doors down, given you're on a difficulty setting that would allow it... (Hard mode, man they really dislike challenges in Minecraft, where's the fun of overcoming adversity?) Anyway, they are mostly the same aside from the follow range boost and knowing the player's location.
I made this datapack because I really wanted a challenge to the game, and found it got too easy to hide away and win fights during the night. How is it that every hostile mob can't see me while I see them? Inspiration came from Vintage Story, and how the hostile creatures of the night know you're in your house. So, they camp it. Telling you the night is theirs. Also, Terraria's enemies zone in on the players at all times. These games have many challenges, their monsters are formidable. Minecraft's challenge in regards to mobs? It can be laughable at times. The difficulty has been decimated as the game progressed with more armor, enchantments, and reworks to how mobs behave.
This datapack is an attempt to bring back the challenge of the night, and reward players for building bases that combat and deter all the mobs that try to come after you. I also really like siege gameplay, and this scratches that itch for me. So, I hope others find it as interesting as I find it.

I just had a bug maybe caused by the version I'm playing on and had to modify this line:
execute as @e[tag=siege_hostile] at @s run attribute @s minecraft:generic.follow_range base set 250
FROM : minecraft:follow_range -> TO : minecraft:generic.follow_range
And yeah, the code was changed from from 1.21.1 to 1.21.3 by Mojang.
They removed the "generic." in the attributes, when updating the game. So, adding that back in would make it compatible with 1.21.1 and possibly versions before that.
100% agree the older vibe of night in the early versions was better.
