Previously there was an idea which supports both directions - minecarts could go up and down ladders which looks amazing. The code for that was made and optimized, and it was ready to release ... until I realize that gravity exists and players could just not use the ladders if they only wanted a downward path, which saves on the work to make and place said ladders. That effectively means that the downwards feature is completely redundant and as such, have to be removed.
I will always remember this event whenever I work on updates for LadderCart as "that day I forgot gravity exists".

Patreon posts don't have to be paid to be put on their site.
For some reason they're even encouraging free stuff as of late.

I don't get anything by making these things for free by the way.
The ads you see once you clicked Download are site-hosted,
which means PMC gets all the profits from showing you those ads.

Hi.
First Thanks for so many nice Datapacks.
By Laddercart works only upwards. If down, jumps up and drive back.
I want use as lift but many floors do work.

You can use Gravity if you want to make it go down.

No, what he is talking about is that you cant use the same rail to go both ways, because the ladder will take you up, but you cant get back down. Gravity does nothing because the minecart get stuck at the ladder, so it cant fall. This kind of big deal, because it breaks this datapack pretty badly.

The idea for LadderCart is always to have Minecarts go up Ladders.
If you need a way to go down you can make another shaft right next to the LadderCart shaft for the down direction using pure gravity.

As for implementing this as a mechanic, it's just not worth the trouble unfortunately. You'd need to design a simple way to trigger the "reverse mode" that can't be mistaken for Minecarts going up Ladders, explain how to trigger said mode, and fix up a lot of potential edge cases around said mode (vertical minecart collisions, trigger bugs, ...), only to make something that can very easily be replaced by gravity. And we're not even mentioning railways that could be affected by such a change, too.

Fun fact though: I originally had this as one of the original features for LadderCart very early on in development, but then I realized gravity exists, and the rest was history.

1. Are you able to put this into a server side mod folder?
2. Will this be available for 1.19?
