It was made by God himself
Aka. Markus Notch Persson. He started out making games as a hobby, but fell over a flashgame called: Infini-miner. He liked the concept and borrowed it over to his next game: Cavegame! (Which was the intended name of Minecraft) but he later changed it.

minecraft was first created by Markus "Notch" Persson in 2009. It started as a hobby project, but some of his friends pitched in, and it hasn't stopped growing since!
