i would say 9 years, but im going to say 10 since its 2020. I played since beta 1.6. I found out about minecraft when my older brother was playing the classic version on the original minecraft.net, and i was interested in what it was. few weeks later, i see him playing the real game, and wanted to try it out. i spied on his worlds and built my own and had lots of fun. built a treehouse, explored my brothers wooden castle, listened to his playlist, one song was dota something and another one was Amish paradise. Built a barn listening to that song one time. I remember working with vertical fences. i remember when the door sound was changed and hated it. Played on my brothers worlds after he left, one of which was called "Skyrim". It was a cobblestone house in a snowy world with an indoor wheat farm with a glass wall to allow sunlight in. I remember making my first table in there with slabs and fences, i remember building my own village before villages actually came out, creating jobs for myself, copying builds from the Shadow of Israphel from the Yogscast, Lost, and some other videos like "Minecraft for N00bs". I remember when pistons came out for the first time and i wanted to get a piston door but i couldnt get any slimeballs to make the sticky piston, i remember building a big house for my 20 dogs, (sadly they never left, as there was a bug where you couldnt make them stand up) at one point i tried making a tutorial world to show my friends how to play the game but it didnt turn out well. i remember alot of things, like my first encounter with a creeper (at night, and when i died i didnt know what happened and was confused) or swimming for my first time, building a lighthouse which consisted of a cobblestone tower with a redstone torch on the top for my brother so he wouldnt get lost, etc. i had alot of fun.
and a few off topic things, i remember playing duke nukem 3d, playing on the atari, nintendo 64's battle tanx, and some other stuff i cant remember. ooh and 007 golden eye!

I'm not sure exactly but it was just before villagers came out so, 9ish years ago
2
Same as me then, villagers came out in 1.0, November 2011. So you started on 1.8 Beta (September 2011) or possibly before that too.

I honestly can't remember, it was so long ago and before I started playing full game I was playing Minecraft classic (the free version), I just remember the villager update coming out.

Just over 8.5 years. Guess I'll round up to 9, why not. 1.8 Beta was the first version I played. I remember playing creative a lot, and making underground, stone brick bases, scared of creepers blowing my build up (mobs attacked you in creative back then).
I remember, watching my brother play, and he was making a mine, by blowing a hole in the ground with TNT. As he went deeper, he discovered an abandoned mineshaft. My 11 year old brain thought that was so cool, and creepy. Also remember flying around in creative, and found an empty village, only to come back to it after an update, to find it full of villagers; and then finding a ravine at the bottom of the well. Such cool moments.
Later, I started playing survival, and making a wooden house/auto-wheat farm in a spruce biome. My friend updated the game to 1.1, and as I played, eventually the taiga began snowing. It was such a magical, astounding moment. At the time I hadn't realized it was an update, which made me feel as though anything was possible. I love the sense of wonder and exploration this game made me experience. Made my childhood that much better. In 2014 (maybe 2013 actually, might not have been public then), one of my classmates in Elementary had started up a factions server, where a bunch of us would all play on. I had a ton of fun on there.
Minecraft is more than just a game to me; it's my younger self in a time capsule, so-to-speak. Amazing how time flies, all those moments felt so recent, yet so long ago.

I've been playing the game since the end of 2009 when my dad downloaded a weird blocky simulator thing. I didn't know it at the time, but it was one of the earliest released versions of what would become Minecraft :D
I first discovered in 2012 that the game had become Minecraft and that you could buy an account instead of only playing that first version that my dad gave me :')
