Modern Super Mario Texture Pack (512x) - Updates and Discussionsperm_media

This thread will contain information about upcomming updates and work-in-progress (wip) about the Modern Super Mario Texture Pack (512x). I will post information about what is being worked on and answer questions or even ask the community about certain preferences. Basically, this is a discussion place for this pack. You can comment your point of view on the pack or on certain textures. I will post upcomming updates and wip details here from now on. I can never give a time frame. I do this on my spare time which is pretty scarce with a family. But this is a passion project and I want to cover as much as possible in the game and hopefully make this pack standalone.

• A vast majority of the blocks in all their forms.
• All ores, flowers and plants
• Most items and doors
• The GUI and font
• Cubemap (the sky dome), sun, moon, stars, night and day sky colors
• Update the title screen rotating background

• Cover more flowers
• Cover the grass with random textures for variety
• Cover chizzled tuff and other tuff textures

While testing and playing, I find sometimes some weird things or happen to figure out something I did not know. Here are a few things you may have missed.
• When posing a painting and then removing it, if there is not enough cleared blocks above, you loose your painting item. In one of my worlds, my dropped painting would be dropped on the block above my ceiling so I had to get out of my protected house and find my item above it.
• I thought spawning next to a village with plenty of coal ore would help me provide a safe place for the villagers by spamming the place with torches while I gather enough resources to build a wall around the village - WRONG! After 3 in-game days, I lost all the villagers and ended up with a ghost-village. Next time, I think I'll build a dirt wall around at least 2 houses and then start my mining.
• High Definition textures like my 512x512 pixel textures still require a 16x16 texture for the item. The cauldron is one such item where you cannot see the item you are selecting because the texture size is too big so you need 2 textures, one for the block and one for the item.

After a very long time! I have finally finished the cubemap. Above is one of the sides. Getting this Mario feel while still maintaining that distant feeling within Minecraft was a challenge. Since you can easily orient yourself in Mario games, I found it very intuitive to make players have a better sense of orientation in Minecraft too. So if you want to guide yourself or someone else using the MSM texture pack, then you can easily tell them to go in the direction of the hills or the castle. If you do not know where you cam from, you can always use that as a reference.
I have also edited some of the paintings because I found that I needed to add more up to date images. I was able to get a good quality map of New Super Mario Bros Wii U. As an added bonus, this painting is split into 2 high definition halves. All you have to do is place them one next to each other and you will get an extra big painting. I tried to get the map of Super Mario Wonder but because of the rectangular and square sizes, I would have needed to cut too some parts of the map which I considered not aesthetic at all.
I really want to focus on Tuff textures because Tuff is a very ugly stone in Minecraft so I want to give it a bit of love as well as also work on the desert textures to cover that area too.

I do not know what happenned, I updated to LB Photorealism 6.4 (absolutely good update. BUT, now, many of my textures are not applied anymore. I now need to go through boring stuff before getting back to the fun stuff which is, edit text files until I get all textures and paths correct. I really hate this part. LB has added some very nice random textures to most of the blocks but as you know, Mario is not random so I need to make sure that the Mario setup is applied so I need to go over each of my textures and make sure they have an entry in their proper text files, notebly blocks.json and terrain_texture.json. I also redownloaded the vanilla pack for the updated textures and paths from original source files directly for reference. For some reason, my crafting table does not animate anymore. 1 thing is good to know though, I really was not into 1 single type of grass but now with the possibility of random textures, this may give some nice touche to the grass and make me add random Mario styled grass textures which I am eager to see. I am also planning to release a new version soon. You can follow it up on my Discord Channel where I give extra details on what I am currently working on.


Ingots have not been done yet and I finally found the good ingot texture to use from Luigi's Mansion. Unfortunately, like a few textures and as I mentionned in my How it's done article, I need to draw the ingot myself to make it a proper 512 x 512 image. So here's a preview. Still needing to add this extra piece of metalice layer to it but I think it turnout out pretty well. And the "I" stands for "Ingot" since the G for Gold is irrelavant since I will be re-using this texture with different colors for the different ores.

I will check if I can refine the edges to make them look less jagged, but no promise there since I use a lot of outlines to cut out extra light and shadow areas. Also missing the actual metalic texture to the image as I mentionned earlier. Feel free to tell me what you think.
