I've seen it done before, but I'm just not sure how to do it myself; I want to use a special named item (I'll name it "Island 2 Key") in order to activate a command block. In terms of hoppers, how would I go about setting it up to where (it'll be a one-time use thing), if I throw in my item, Island 2 Key, to a hopper (fed by a water stream), it will activate a command block that I have set up to remove barrier blocks from a bridge (I already know how to remove the blocks)? Then, I also would like to have it set to where any time someone tosses in a wrong item, it will be returned, and a message will display stating "Incorrect item."

You'll want to fill a hopper with 18 of the named item, providing it's stackable. A comparator will output a strength of 1 adding one more increases the strength to 2 which could trigger a command block. It would be easier to run a clear command on a fill clock which clears "0" of the named item and use a comparator from there.

You need an item sorter. Google it.
