Can anyone help me understand mushroom blocks and block IDs for custom textures?

Plugins such as MMOItems and CustomItems allows you to create "custom blocks", which are really just mushroom blocks in disguise.
What I'm trying to figure out is how to spawn that exact mushroom block in a vanilla manner.
I'm not sure when it changed, but now mushroom blocks operate on facings - not IDs, so for something like this: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/345320261584814082/787597188728356885/unknown.png
I'm not sure how I'd approach it. Any insight would be great.
Thank you for your time.

You can use setblock command and block data in square bracket after namespaced id, example:
I believe multiple blockstate arguments goes after comma ( , )
/setblock ~ ~ ~ red_mushroom_block[north=true]
I believe multiple blockstate arguments goes after comma ( , )
