How to make bushy leaves?

I'm a complete beginner trying to make a 1.14.4 resource pack but I'm stuck on the leaves. I've seen leaves that are sort of 3d in packs like Cubed, Feudalist and Cocricot (for 1.12.2) but I just cannot make heads or tails of the .json files and how they were created - though it seems some were made in Blockbench, a program I'm not familiar with.
Any help would be much appreciated! I've spent days trying to work this out on my own >-<

you need make model (use cubikstudio for voxel model(only cube) or use blockbench for element model(use rotation)) after made model make blockstates if you want make it variant

Blockbench is one of the best Minecraft modelers right after Cubic Studio
Start with something small and get familliar with the program.

That was my first port of call but I couldn't find anything... might just be that I wasn't searching for quite the right thing!
