How to stop UV overlap when texturing custom models

Hi, I am using Blockbench to model and texture mobs. I just started today. I added a few extra cubes to the cow model, but when I did so I noticed the textures for the cubes all started at the top right of the UV in the same space. This means that colors appear in places they aren't supposed to on the model, as when I color one piece is colors all the other pieces that overlap in the UV if that makes sense. How do I stop this overlap? Thanks.
