I know you can texture items based off of their name on optifine, but how can i make my own resource pack with textures for items with certain names?

I have an optifine pack that does this, but I think optifine is the only way to do it. Its super easy to work with though, and there are plenty of online tutorials and guides, the best of which being the optifine github. There is another slightly more complicated way to do it in vanilla, but it doesn't actually revolve around names, but another tag called CMD (Custom Model Data). Again, there are numerous tutorials but working with optifine is the easier way to do it. Hope this helps.
