Need help with making a resource pack feature please.
Hi there, so I have made a few resource packs now but I recently used a resource pack where if a item was renamed its item texture would change. I was wondering how this was done, and does it work in 1.7.10? The pack I found that did that was a 1.12.2 resource pack. I do not know much about this, totally new concept for me so maybe someone could help me out? I want to do this for 1.7.10 items/armor. If you can help me that would be great, and I'll make sure to give you credit for it in a resource pack I'm working on.

Ok, here is another question: How do I run MCpatcher? I have tried but it is not workng.. I get a error message saying "java.io.IOException: Could not get list of launcher profiles"

Are you installing Optifine opening jar file from optifine.net with java?
If so then it might be a bug and i would recommend You to regenerate .minecraft folder (first backup worlds, screenshoots, Resourcepack etc)

Uh, I'm not sure what I did differently but I got it downloaded and it worked I think? but the cit(custom item textures) parts aren't working at all.

Then this feature might not exist in 1.7.10 yet or is unstable
Why not creating RP for more modern version, like 1.8 or 1.12?

Yeah, I could but I like 1.7.10 all my favorite mods, except a few, are in that version (unfortunately they show no signs of leaving it)

Then maybe try to find alternative mods for newer versions?

You want to make a language in your resource pack for 1.7.10? I know how to for 1.12.2, but... I mean, I started playing computer edition back in 1.7.10, and it took me years to change even my skin from steve... lol...

You don't have to rename it to change the texture.
For example, the location of stone.png (the block) in a resource pack named "TestResourcePack" would be this:
.minecraft/resourcepacks/TestResourcePack/assets/minecraft/textures/blocks/stone.png
and the location of the diamond_sword.png item in that TestResourcePack would be this:
.minecraft/resourcepacks/TestResourcePack/assets/minecraft/textures/items/diamond_sword.png
Although you might know that and I might just be confused, lol.
Also please note that I'm using Linux, and I don't have very much experience in Windows.

You aren't understanding what I mean so... idk maybe it isn't possible in 1.7.10...
