Cost To Run A Server
Hi, I have always wanted to run a minecraft server but have never been to good at it, I came across the idea to run a 24/7 server which will obviously attract players worldwide. If someone could tell me how much it would cost to run a 24/7 server with 1-10 slots for 1 month please reply soon and also how many gb of internet usage it would take-up. Please Reply. If someone can help me then I will give free V.I.P rank on my server IF it becomes successful. Thanks

First of all, I wouldn't recommend using your PC to host, not if you're planning to promote it publicly or keep it up 24/7. I run my own host and my server machine is an older Dell Dimension desktop. I'll get to the hardware and OS later. First you need to check how well your internet can host. Follow this link to find out:

Your internet bill and power are the ONLY upfront costs. I also have a free Enjin website for my server that serves my needs quite well. See it here:

Next check out this link for the BEST Minecraft server private hosting OS that exists:
http://minecraft.codeemo.com/
Setting this all up can be tricky but when you have the OS installed (will also work on a VM), it only runs about 50mb and the rest is for Minecraft! The support and wiki are also very helpful.
My server specs:
Dell Dimension 4600 desktop
Intel P4 3.4Ghz 1024KB L2
2Gb pc3200 400mhz RAM
Pretty slow IDE HDD is annoying XD
I run 10 slots.
BTW check out my server, the post is here:

pytohost.com is really cheap and seems to be good!

He isn't looking for a host...

If you are really looking for a cheap hosted MC server for you to have on your own computer the price would depend on if you ISP charges you for the amount of bandwidth or amount of GB transfer between each player. So the costs in the long run would be dependent on your Internet Service Provider.

it's free if you just want to download it from mojang and run it from your computer.
(does not include stress from having to portforward, and the strain it puts on your computer)

Start/Stop Server - Free
Everything Else - Not Free

What you had done there was separate each part of a server start up into parts. To run the server it has to be a hole so if you put it together and make that hole it's not free. There is always a cost somewhere. Even air isn't free.

Right nothing is free, I get that. But that doesn't detract from the fact that just to create the server and just run it, Doesn't cost anything. Yes, with more people using your internet bandwith it will cost more. But that main point is the same. If you make a server, host it it's free. It ceases to be free once someone joins and start's eating up your bandwith

There you go.

Mmk than
If you do plan on making it 24/7 by keeping your pc on for a month, your usage rates will probably go through the roof. As for the cost. Unknown

Depends on what host you would like.
Some price by:
-Players
-RAM
Suggested Hosts:
Mcprohosting
Beastnode
Treepuncher
But really I'd just do with McProhosting
http://mcprohosting.com/index.php
For a Dirt Plan its only $6 and includes:
768 MB of RAM
1-18 Players
Bukkit
Edit: Oh and for GB usage, it shouldn't really have any since its on one of their servers (An actual machine type of server), so all data goes through there.
