To mod, or not to mod?

DMC is a server I've been working on for about a month now, and was pretty set on making a full RPG experience without the assistance of mods. Recently a large amount of work I'd done was wiped, twice, and I've been stuck in a spot on how to proceed. WE've been discussing the option of adding mods. Essentially I would just like to know how likely you would be to play on a custom modpack, and whether or not I should try to keep it vanilla.

The Poll is simple, but I'd love to hear some feedback in the comments as well!
Thanks!

Thanks for all the input! It looks like mods have won out! Between the poll, comments, and a few PMs, its clear that mods are definitely the way to go!

Currently we're play testing the roguelike dungeons and adventure pack (RAD) for 1.12.2, but we're just trying to get a feel for some of the RPG mods that are out there!

Thank you everyone for your help, I'll be posting about further updates soon, so make sure to sub to me if you'd like to stay updated with the progress of the server!

If you want to maintain some of the essence of survival minecraft i recommend using just essential mods that will help on moderating the server
