DDR4 thoughts
DDR4 is released, and it's bringing quite new features.
Also the X99 chipset will support 50% more bandwidth, and use around 30% less power. Now imagine putting high end DDR4 when it comes out with top of the line SSD's on SATA express, and an 8 core processor.
What are your thoughts on the new hardware being released?
Are you going to be upgrading to DDR4 as soon as you can?
I'll probably wait a bit until the price goes down.
- Clock rate starting around 2333MHz
- Less power usage
- "DDR4 will also support deep power down, allowing it to go into a sleep mode that requires no refresh of the memory."

Not a big deal, except for laptops maybe. RAM is so cheap it doesn't matter about the frequency/bandwidth improvements.

Why would it be better for laptops?
And ram is cheap? Since when? If anything it has doubled in the last few months.

KillertoadCodingBucketshow you guys are just making false statements i will be doing RAM PREVIEW it uses ram or RAM RENDER it uses ram also my brother is the the janitor not the coffee guy why wont you guys keep saying that like Searchndstroy said i might be using 16 gb ram for a server yes i will
Those won't use much ram. A simple google search and you'll find that out.CodingBucketsalso my brother is the janitor not the coffee guy
What? Lol, you said earlier that he's 3 promotions away from manager? Manager of what? The janitor team?
And why will you put 16 for a server that you probably can't even host?
oh my god i keep messing up my words hes not the coffee guy and hes not the janitor

I can OC DDR3 memory to 3200 MHz with my motherboard, so really the only difference between DDR3 and DDR4 is the voltage, price, and stability... none of which you seem to be concerned with. Yes, RAM preview in the questionably legal copy of your video editing program renders frames into memory, but your CPU is many times more important in the performance you're going to get. Do your homework before being nasty to people for trying to make you see reason.

Time to pull out the old facepalm.gif

32GB of ram is complete overkill, unless you plan on having 16GB dedicated to something like a minecraft server.

UMayBleed"DDR4 will also support deep power down, allowing it to go into a sleep mode that requires no refresh of the memory."
Oh god my worst nightmare, data being able to remain in RAM without a memory refresh.

Dang, the CAS latency on DDR4 is insane. 15? 16? And I thought CL 11 was bad.
1
Probably just for now... CAS 16 at 2133 is like 1333 CAS 7/9, lol

we wll see

turns out im gonna go for the i7-5820k because im not paying for a cpu thats 1108 dollars and i dont mind going down 2 cores or the i7 5930k
1
Why get a 2011 cpu then? The motherboards are gonna cost you almost as much as the cpu?
Save money and get broadwell when it comes out...

Well that's a good idea
i know let's wait until games need 8 gb
I doubt many games will need 8GB unless they have a ton of graphics, or data to be stored, something like Star Citizen
ya

OldTownDRR4 Will be extremely expensive when it first comes out, also, that picture shows 1 stick of 4GB, which is not worth it at all and you shouldn't be buying such small capacities, at least 8gb per stick. Also, if you didn't notice, that's a Pre-Order...
Yeah, I am also waiting for the stick sizes to become bigger and cheaper. Maybe wait for the 16GB sticks.

yes we know that was a example

i know let's wait until games need 8 gb and im gonna need to upgrade to intel cuz im not waiting for a new fx cpu that supports ddr4
1
wait until the price goes to for 32 gb ddr3 so about i gotta spend 600 bucks new cpu mobo and that ram
1
Ya know, I thought this was about Dance Dance Revolution...
1
Well thats surpising
Well that's a good idea
CodingBucketsim future proofing and i wanna run minesweeper at a stable 30 fps plus i need it for extreme animating rendering that uses ram preview and stuff and tons of gaming
one more thing im not gonna listen to people on a minecraft forum because my brother works at a computer company that got a sample of ddr4 and its insanely fast and i watch tech youtubers
Well that's a good idea
1
oh ya just when i was about to upgrade to 32gb ddr3 now i gotta wait for a mobo compatible with ddr4 and the fx 8120
1
Well it must of just released not long ago.
1
its the 12th 17 days not counting today
1
why are you saying next year its this year
im gonna get 32 gb of it
and theres another ddr4 memory 2133 mhz

32GB will cost a lot. Currently, 32GB of RAM DDR3 1600 costs more than $300. DDR4 will cost twice as much. Also, you won't need that much.

Your brother could be a janitor at a computer company? And yeah it's fast, it's a whole different ram set.
you will not ever need 32. It's a waste of money? 16 is the max you'll ever need.
We did a test, with 16gb's, we was rendering two longish videos, running two games in the background, had 2 photoshop tabs open, and 25+ tabs in chrome open, and it only used 15gb's of ram there.
I know for a fact no one is gonna do that, as your hardware can't handle that. So 32 is useless.
Also, since ddr4 is gonna be faster, you can get less and have the same performance as more on ddr3.
Lets say you get a 8gb 2833 set, at cas 9. That'll be just as good, if not better than 16 GB's of ddr3.

killertoad your just i have no words and my brother just needs 3 more promotionsuntil hes manager oh ya im just getting 32 gb if you say that its useless guess what i dont care im just gonna get it cause im a tech enthusiast

It's your choice. Waste your money if you want to. You won't need more then 16. You probably won't even need 16. Why don't you get 16gbs at first and if you find that whatever programs you run are constantly using 100% of your RAM then you can upgrade if you need too(which you won't).
Anyways I don't really see the point of upgrading to DDR4 until Skylake is released. The increased cost of Haswell-E CPUs and motherboards plus DDR4 costing more than DDR3 really isn't worth the little gains of DDR4.

Yeah, no words, ha, don't know what you're talking about? And manager of what company? And tech enthusiast? Yeah, because every "tech enthusiast" gets 32GB's of ram because they can. I'm pretty sure any of us "tech enthusiasts" would disagree.
