OP, how big is your power supply? That would be helpful to find a GPU that fits with your system. If you, in one way or another, can't find it, go with a 750ti or 750. Those 2 are your safest bets.

Don't upgrade your CPU. It is perfectly fine.

All these inexperienced people will suggest expensive CPUs and crappy GPUs.
Not only that but they are suggesting CPUs not compatible with your motherboard's chipset.

Upgrade your GPU. Depending on what you can afford, get an R9 3XX GPU, or an NVidia 9XX GPU.

I don't think that a GTX 770 will be compatible with an i3...

Says the one suggesting an i7 that isn't even compatible with his motherboard. The 770 will work fine with an i3; no bottlenecks or issues. Please leave this thread if you don't know what you are doing.

My recommendation is to upgrade to an i5 4460 and a GTX 750ti. This will give you high performance for Minecraft, even if you want to try something like Shaders mod. These parts are also quite cheap.

No point in upgrading the CPU; he'd have to get a new motherboard. Replacing the CPU, GPU, and mobo is not only expensive, but it's also pretty much the same as building a new computer (which is one thing OP said he didn't want to do). Plus, the i3 will be plenty for Minecraft.

OP, I ask again: what's your computer model?

Just pop in a GTX 750 Ti. Nice ones go for as little as $130.

This is a prebuilt computer, right? What model is it?

Yes it will. And you are telling the kid to get an i7 processor which is also another $340 on top of the price. He just wants something that can run minecraft better, not something he can render massive movies on. He is fine with the i3 as long as he has a good video card to pick up for the lack in processor.

Change your Intel Core i3 into a i7 (http://ark.intel.com/products/80807/Int ... o-4_40-GHz). And change your graphics card to something better like this one : http://www.nvidia.com/gtx-700-graphics-cards/gtx-760/

You only need to upgrade 1 thing and thats the graphic card. Id find a video card that has at least 2GB of RAM on it. I use a GTX 770 2GB and that works fine. If you want some more help or tips on what to pick just message me.
