Just wondering what should be normal HDD operating temperatures, and if it running 50-55 degrees Celcius is bad or not.

The NZXT Sentry series is very good, but it'll vary between your case style. If you have a mesh-front case like some Cooler Master cases (just off the top of my head), the Sentry Mesh should serve you fine. If you want that simple look but don't have a mesh-front case, the Sentry Mix 2 will be fine. If you want something very customizable, the SENTRY 3 will do the job fine.

Thanks man. I don't have a mesh case so the first one won't due. I'll look into the other two. I believe both of those are $30 or $35 at the bestbuy real close to me.

Maybe your room is too hot, try opening the windows and letting fresh air pass

It's around 69F/21C.
I find it strange my HDD is the hottest idling thing in my computer.

Perhaps it's because I only have 1 case fan running (and it's the one away from the hdd). My mobo only has one chassis fan header though, what would I do to have both fans go?

If you have space for another fan, you could use a Molex connector to power your fan through the PSU at 100% all the time (in this case, I'd recommend going for a quieter, high quality fan, as you'll need it to last for a long time as well as be quiet enough it won't make your computer sound like a turboprop while it's on).You can also buy a fan controller which will manually let you control your fan speeds, but you need a 5.25" bay.

I have 2 spare 5.25 inch bays. Got any recommendations on a fan controller? And if I got anything, I would prefer to get it from a local store. (which is pretty much best buy, don't got much here)

Yes, running at 50 degrees Celsius is pretty bad. You'll have to look at the specs on the Drive Manufacturer's website (usually Seagate or Western Digital), but I believe normal operating temperatures cap at about 40 degrees. However, I assume it also depends on your environment (for example, a server-grade drive may have higher temperature ratings than a desktop one).

I am not 100%, mine runs at around 35 degrees Celsius, I have seen it go to 45, but it is mostly around 35.

It should be OK if its under 50. I would see why its above 50, is your cooling ok?
