I am looking into several different computers for my kid to play Minecraft & Roblox. My budget is unfortunately less than $300. I have been extensively researching several laptops in the price range but it all boils down to personal preferences and if someone has actually used the computer successfully.

This is what we would like to see in her new laptop...

1. Only needed for Minecraft, Roblox & YouTube. She is also really into Sims but I think that game is even more demanding and may really need a more expensive laptop to work properly.

2. We hope to see no lagging whatsoever or slow movement

3. She does not use any texture packs or extras for Minecraft so we wouldn't need to accommodate that

4. Must be a Windows operating system (not Mac & of course not a Chromebook)

5. I do not want to have to tinker around or change anything about the computer to get the games to work

6. The graphics do not have to be amazing

7. All we need is the bare minimum to run Minecraft, Roblox & YouTube smoothly

After researching for literally hours here is what I have narrowed it down to in my price range and that seems to be the best... Will this laptop be good enough to run Minecraft, Roblox & YouTube smoothly?

1. Lenovo IdeaPad (the bare minimum one with 4GB RAM & 500GB Hard-Drive)

If you have any other suggestions of laptops you absolutely know work well with these games, are under $300 and can be purchased through Amazon Prime please let me know! THANKS! :)

I am going to create a new thread asking specifically about the one laptop that may seem to work that is affordable. It is a little out of my price range still but worth it considering we won't be able to get her a laptop at all if it won't run Roblox or Minecraft.

The laptop is an Acer Aspire E15.

Anyone have any experience with this laptop?

Best laptop you can buy for the money hands down. Bought one for my girlfriend.

Would recommend you run Linux on it as opposed to Windows, though because Windows is hogs too much resources.

Also might want to ask around about running Roblox on Linux if you put Linux on it, though. Apparently it's possible but I've never tried it.

Sims is CPU intensive. I would recommend having at least an i3 7th/8th/9th generation. I have an i5 8th gen, and it still takes up a whole lot of my CPU to run Sims. As for Minecraft/Roblox, you don't really need much. It should be fine.

I don't know how much storage you will use up. If you aren't storing much, I would say you should get a better CPU for a bit less storage if possible. Having a better CPU would be beneficial for both Minecraft and Sims. I'm unsure if Roblox is CPU bound, but either way, it should be beneficial to get a better CPU either way.

The only problem with that one is that is "refurbished" and I absolutely hate having to put in hundreds for something that is not brand new. I have read horror stories in the reviews of almost every refurbished laptop I have looked at of how they come with dents, scratches, and then crash within a few months. I have also heard people receiving laptops that will not even turn on or charge. I already ended up sending back a Chromebook last week that my kid got for her birthday because those do not run Minecraft or Roblox. So this will be our second try.

Does anyone know if these ones will work?

nowdays refurbished pc trading from sellers like amazon are well done and not a pile of scrap metal and in decent condition, the people who re-sell them know what they are doing and actually make an effort, but if you dont want them, we cant force you (:

these computers, i'll give you short answers for your given requirements in your original post, they might be able to run the game, but not to your given standards

1. yes, actually quite a nice machine for the price, esp with the current money off on amazon, might even be able to get sims working on it
2. no
3. no, also looks disgusting, colour and physical appearance wise in my opinion, designed for word processing and nothing else

also dont buy chromebooks, they suck unless all you want to do is word processing/document writing, they are not designed for gaming at all and only run apps from the chrome web store, the small price tag is always inviting but you get nothing out of it than a glorified notepad

I'm like 95% sure the laptop funkiecrunch posted would be great for Minecraft, Roblox, and The Sims 4 (Including The Sims 4) the laptop has better specs than my desktop and I can run it on medium graphics with Custom Content

minecraft and roblox are small in file size, 500bg hard disk space is more than enough to run them, its not like they are downloading an entire steam library onto the device, 500gb is fine storage for long term usage, ( funkiecrunch )

Laptop you have posted will not run minecraft at the requirements you want it to be run at

there are glaring issues with the device, the R4 Raedon chipset it uses as a graphics processor and a CPU with a clock speed slower than the minimum requirements for minecraft listed on

the R4 graphics are a generation behind minimum spec (r5 is minimum), they also dont have dedicated memory to them and run off the system memory which can throttle the rest of the computer
the cpu clock is 1.9 gz slower than the minimum spec (3.1 is minimum)

the laptop listed is designed for office work and is no way designed or intended to be used to game on.

the laptop funkiecrunch listed however would run minecraft ok, and is actually cheaper than the lenovo machine you have listed as well as roblox, not sure which sims game you are playing so i cant give an opinion there, they are fairly light games when it comes to resource demand but only if you play on the lowest of the low settings, 128gb SSD is a godsend with windows 10, fast boot times and stuff like that but you sacrifice a lot of storage space for that blessing.

if you want to shop for laptops to run minecraft, keep a look at the minecraft system requirements and compare them to the specifications on the devices you are looking at (java edition requirements, but if it can run java it can run bedrock and it can also run roblox which has extremely low system requirements)

I think it would, "just" work...
Consider compromising on the hard drive, that can always be upgraded later if you need more storage capacity..
this one for example, has a much better processor, while having less storage space...""might" even run sims on low graphics...
