How do i use my "f" keys without having to push fn????

I play pvp type servers and on my old computer and I really relied on my f keys for some advantages. I recently got a new computer and whenever i try to screenshot, it lowers my brightness, f11 doesn't do anything and f5 just triggers my backlights on my keyboard. i can use the f keys when pressing fn but its very inconvenient. How do i change this?

'FN' switches the function keys from the program your using to the program settings, or the other way arround, for example minecraft f you press F5 itss go to third person, but hold down the 'FN' key and it can do other stuff, i think thats the use

In situations like these, it's best to include the make/model of the computer in question. However, most laptops that have defaulted off function keys, as VietnameeGuy mentioned, have a "Fn" key that can be held down to give the desired function, when a "F" key is pressed, or a F-Lock key that locks the function out until unlocked. Additionally, some Lenovo and other laptops have no way to affect this behavior physically on the keyboard or in Windows and have a setting within the Laptop's BIOS to change this behavior.

Try pressing Fn and Escape at the same time.

maybe just find a usb keyboard laying around somewhere and plug it in and use that if it's not a pita. depending on your computer there might be some kind of on the side software that lets you adjust settings like your f keys. if all else fails just try and reassign the keys in the control settings.

depending on your computer, you may have an F-lock (like caps lock, but fir the F keys) Check your keyboard settings to see if you can do this
