I would like to get a new monitor since the one that I use right now is 5 years old and have been wanting a nice one for a while.
Price Range: I would rather not go over 500 but exceptions can be made.

Anyway, my suggestion would be to get a small flat screen LED tv from someone like Panasonic. I have one, and it wasn't that expensive to buy, also, MC is awesome to play on the thing!

Back on topic.....
I say just get an HDTV instead, that way you get something that already has speakers and a wide array of ports, including coaxial in case you ever want to watch TV with it.
Here's the one I have. It's pretty nice at a decent price. There are a few bad things about it, such as the sound is pretty bad out of the box, so you have to turn the treble almost all of the way down for it to sound alright, and you can't have the bass too high (or turn the volume up too high) as it causes vibration. The stand could also be a bit more stable.
However, these issues aren't bad enough where they impact usage. The sound (after configured) is fine (definitely fine for day-to-day usage), and the picture quality is what you'd expect from an HDTV.
I actually had another HDTV before this one, a Vizio HDTV that, despite being old (from around when the PS3 first came out, when HDTVs where not as much of a commodity as they are now), is actually really nice. The problem was it was annoying with a computer because there was overscaling that could not be disabled, so I couldn't use 1920x1080 as my display resolution, but use underscanning. Now, with the Westinghouse TV I don't have that issue because it's an option you can disable ("Aspect" on the remote, hit it until it gets to "Zoom Mode: Standard").
HDTVs work great as monitors as long as you make sure it has the option to disable overscanning.

Good advice. I use a Samsung Smart TV as my monitor and it is great. Plus with multiple HDMI inputs you can plug in other things like gaming consoles and such.

Since you said you were willing to build a rig for up to 1000$ you can easily build a much better computer than what upgrading would allow. Plus you can easily use the RAM/hard drive/optical drive from your old computer in your new one if you wanted to. Do you want to overclock or not?

The only reason I didn't really like it is because my setup consists of blue/black, and having some random silver in there would throw off the mood :L

Looks nice! I have been thinking about a custom build gaming pc for less than $1000, but I'm not completely sure about the gaming pc right now. I still was going to get a new monitor anyways but If I did build a pc do you think that this would work fine? Thanks!
