Need an upgrade! Please help!!!!!!!
Hey everyone. I've only been playing minecraft since 1.5 but I have come to the point where I cannot stand the lack of frames per second. I have 9fps on no-lag-servers but on others, I struggle to get past 3. I've been researching and I THINK I need a graphics card.
I have an old Dell pc with four gig ram and fibre connection (30-40 mbps) and my minecraft crashes alot.
I am not willing to get a new pc, I need an upgrade for LESS THAN £40!!!
I am looking for smooth gameplay, Around 50fps .
Like i said before, I think I need a cheap graphics card and not RAM. I have 4 gigs and cannot fit anymore in.
If anyone can help me I will be unbelievably grateful!
Thanks in advance

Hey we have all been in the lag zone here are some steps to install mods with the clicks of the cursor
Step one: download optifine and magic launcher
Step two: Make a folder for mods you want to install the ones I know will work is optifine and too many items.
Step three: Open magic launcher and click on set up above your log in
Step four : under enviorment click the drop down and than select 1.6.2
Step five: Click add with your mods find that file that has your optifine in it and you should test it and make sure the status should be OK
Search on youtube " How to make optifine not lag " Hope this has helped and if it has worked please PM me for any other questions relating something other than this and enjoy your new optifine

An old Dell you say? I am going to guess that your CPU is the issue as opposed to your graphics card since minecraft is more CPU intensive than anything. Since you have a Dell chances are upgrades won't work well anyway Dell tends to lock up their computers so you can't upgrade the graphics card or your CPU (specialized motherboard) and they tend to use a power supply that will run what the computer was designed to run and nothing more, you MAY be able to upgrade the ram by maybe 1GB but I wouldn't be suprised if you couldn't.
My advice:
try optifine as others have said keep messing with settings to try and help your fps.
A lot of people try optifine and it doesn't work but very few people actually bother configuring it properly.
Reformat your computer (extreme I know but they are good to do on occassion)
Save up for a new computer (buy the parts bit by bit and just slowly build it yourself its cheaper and better and you feel good about it at the end)

You can try optifine it improves your fps

I tried optifine before without a graphics card. It works on some computers but not on others. You will get the biggest boost with a card. The boost will be minimal if not anything without a card.

Ww you have a really really bad computer... I thought mine was bad

It wasn't a bad computer, just intel integrated graphics was horrible

Vizrtritechdude154Operating system? processor?Graphic cards have very minimal effect on minecraft it mostly uses the proccessor
I disagree, I put a gt 620 in my pc and got an fps boost from 20 (on normal and fast) to around 80 (on far and fancy). The graphics card alleviates a little load off the CPU
I recommend the galaxy gt 620. It all depends on your PSU. If you have a 300W PSU and a pcie slot, you should be fine

It is a little over your budget, but if you have a strong enough processor, it should really boost your FPS. Just be sure your PSU can handle it. If not, I would say build your own PC instead of spending all the money upgrading it
it depends on his cpu also, having a low end cpu and a medium/high end gpu means the cpu will bottlekneck the gpu
hence but if you have a strong enough processor

What pc specs does your current pc have

You said smooth gameplay but smooth is 20-30, not 50 and just try to work on settings, it will help alot. Its not about internet speed.

I think you have to raise your budget a little, if you want mc to run with 50 fps+...

Hmmm... I honestly said this wrong. Let me try again.
What do I need to boost my fps to 50+ OR MAKE MINECRAFT LAG FREE?
I'm using my birthday money of which I have £50 to spend (Another £40 for CoD: Ghosts!) so please tell me what I should but and I'll reserch it
Thanks!

I know a graphics card that's good for minecraft, but vrap for other games. Before deciding you need a graphics card, make sure you have a dual or quad core 2.4GHz + processor. Anyway, the graphics card is an amd hd 6670, going for about 60 pounds (british money).
EDIT:
British amazon link

If you do increase your budget to around 120 pounds, you are able to get a beast graphics card. The card is an Evga GTX 650 ti SSC

Thanks to everyone who answered. I'll need a direct link to a graphics card's website!

Update Java
Set MC graphics to this:
Particles: Minimal
Graphics: Fast
Performance: Max FPS
Smooth Lighting: Off
Then, use a non laggy resorse pack.

Doesn't really help the person. they asked if they should upgrade not if anyone else gets lag

Buy a gtx titan. That should boost your fps haha
1
did you read the post properly? the person said they won't spend more than £40 (surprisingly low budget for computer pieces) and the GTX Titan is £800
1
I was joking..
1
you won't be able to upgrade very much for £40. just allocate more RAM or use lower settings
also, you won't get 50 fps on anything under £40 you would probably be lucky to get something that runs at 30 fps for that budget
