Hey! So I will be building this PC soon and I really would like to know what kind of fps I'm looking at and if I will be able to run shaders with 60+ fps.

Thanks!

Wonderful build, OP. Great job.

The motherboard you picked is still a motherboard that allows overclocking, should you decide so in the future, so not to worry. If you do, be sure to grab an aftermarket cooler of some sorts!

Have fun.

I saved you a couple quid on your build and threw in a better motherboard. This one will let you overclock that i5 even though it's locked. You said you didn't plan on overclocking, but it doesn't hurt to have it as an option should you choose to do it down the road.

I ordered all the parts today I went with this final build

I bought them before I saw your motherboard comment, but it's fine

Looks great. The only thing you're really missing out on is overclocking (at least until MSI releases a BIOS update to allow non-K overclocking like ASRock and Biostar have).

That's actually a pretty sleek-looking case. I'm impressed with what BitFenix did with it.

Get a secondary drive, a SSD preferably.

That build looks awesome! I think you can run shaders with it around 50 fps also the larger power supply is a good idea it leaves room for expansion and addons. good luck

*UPDATED INFO* I swapped out the r9 380 4GB for the 390 8GB.

For the processor you should probably the get unclocked version (Intel Core i5-6500K), with that you will be able to overclock. And get an SSD, I know those things are quite expensive but it is worth it, trust me. Your PC will become alot faster because of it and things boot alot faster aswell. The case is decent. Your powersupply is a bit overkill, you can easily get a 450W power supply without any issues. The videocard is a really good one but, because your other components aren't extreme, it is probably overkill. I run Minecraft with 100+ FPS on highest settings (With OptiFine) using a NVIDIA GTX 750Ti 2GB. If I run shaders on highest setting I get around 30FPS, if I turn down the setting I can get up to 60 FPS. I also see that you only bought 1 8GB RAM stick. It is better to either buy 2x 4GB or 2x 8GB, if you only use 1 stick you will use half of the available bandwidth, which is not good! I also recommend if you want to overclock to install a third-party cooler, although this is not required. Anyway, good luck with building your PC!

I dont really plan to overclock

The 6600k first unlocked Skylake i5, there is no 6500k. The 6600k is a large amount more expensive than the 6500 and if somebody isn't really bothered about overclocking then the 6500 is absolutely fine.

The days of dual channel over single channel RAM are pretty much over, you'll see no benefit in 99% of tasks. The best method for buying RAM is to look at how much you need, then buy that much at the cheapest you can that doesn't compromise speed.

The 6600k doesn't come with a CPU cooler so you would 100% need to have an aftermarket CPU cooler unless you enjoy watching your CPU melt within seconds of booting your PC.

650w isn't overkill especially if you intend on upgrading and his current build would be maxing out a 450w PSU or at least coming dangerously close to the limit, thus crashing the PC when it got too close and becoming impractical for heavy workloads. 650w is ideal.

Thanks for the great advice! I don't plan on over clocking but I do plan on upgrading in the future to maybe an i7 and a gtx 980ti which is why I chose a 650 PSU I will keep all of what you said in mine.
Thanks again!

With the R9 380, most likely you won't even get close to 60+ frames. Here's a the R9 380 in action.

You may have to turn down some settings to achieve more frames.

The video you listed is not the 380. It's the 280. Also, the model I'm going for is 4gb not 2gb.

The R9 380 is basically the 280 in terms of performance. If a 280 owner bought a 380 as an upgrade, they'd have wasted their money greatly.

4GB of VRAM is only going to help when that amount is needed, if only 1.5GB was needed then a 2 and 4GB card would perform identically.

The 380 is based off of the R9 285's Tonga GPU (ca. 2014). The 280 is from 2012 or whenever the HD 7950 came out. I agree that the performance difference is not worth an upgrade from a 280, but they're not identical (about an 800-point difference in PassMark).

OP, have you considered a GTX 970? You'll get much better power efficiency at the sacrifice of slightly lower performance in some games (the two trade blows in different games at stock speeds, though I think the 390 beats the 970 in more games than the 970 beats the 390 in).

Yeah, I've been switching between 970 and 390 but I've decided to go with the 390 due to the small amount of fps difference over the 970 in most games, also due to the amount of 8GB VRAM for future proofing

You're talking as if the 390 is powerful enough to make use of all that VRAM. The conditions under which it would make good use of the extra 4 gigs are fairly limited.
