You'll be fine there with the 270 as well, at least GPU-wise. what are the specs of the rest of your computer?

For $120, you're at the most expensive 260x's, or a 265 if you find a good bargain.
Right now, there's an r9 270 for $140, which I know is a bit over your budget but it will play many games very well - I have one and I get about 50 or 60 FPS in Minecraft with SEUS Shaders Standard. It will be fine to have just regular minecraft. I get around 150 or 200 fps at the least in vanilla.

What is the rest of your system? Can your PSU handle adding a GPU? Anyways, the r7 260x can be found for 90$ or the r7 250x for around 60$.

That is y i say to save up the money until he can get something better.

I agree with you at the point that just a little bit more money he would be able to get a product that delivers way more performance than those, but he has to work something out for the money he has...

the cards he and i mentioned are very well capable of running minecraft or even some of the more demanding games... maybe not on maxed out settings but they will run them on 1080p at a acceptable frame rate. however, a card for a price that low will not deliver high fps with shaders or stuff like that.
a r7 250 is enough for minecraft

It is not worth it thu.

Low end cards are never good save up and spend like $120 on a GPU.

You should be able to find yourself a R7 250 for 89$ as that would be the price that AMD officially set for that card, its a bit better than a R7 240, both should be able to run minecraft good enough for your demands as long as your CPU isnt going to be a problem
