It was supposed to be the titan killer, with better performance in games then a Titan X occasionally.

It had better performance over the Titan X in many benchmarks, but like any enthusiast-grade card, it's expensive. The price is actually around 900$.

Show me these benchmarks. All the one's I've seen show them trading blows depending on the game.

For the same price as a 980 Ti you could get a dual-GPU card that used twice the power and required water cooling, but only tied it in benchmarks.
