Which GPU to get?
This is my current build:
I have £200 which is around $250 ($1 in the near future).
This is a very tight budget to upgrade such an outdated system but I was thinking, to improve my build the most for gaming, my best option is to get a decent GPU instead of running my games off of integrated graphics on my CPU. I actually only have 4GB of HyperX fury but I have another stick of that coming in the post. The three options I have thought of are:
- Sapphire RX 480 4GB (£210 @Amazon) ( ~ a little over my budget, with the rest of my parts requires around 430W, which is a little too close for comfort due to my 500W PSU.
- Sapphire RX 470 4GB (£180 @Amazon) ~ a bit cheaper, requires around 350W, but a slightly worse performance compared to the RX 480.
- ZOTAC GTX 1060 3GB Mini (£190 @Amazon) ~ somewhere between the two, marginally better performance than the RX 470 but 1GB less VRAM than the two above GPUs. Requires a comfortable 310W which allows room for me to upgrade my other parts in the future.
I am completely torn between the three and need the help of the wondrous PMC PC squad. Any other GPU suggestions will also be greatly appreciated. Please remember my budget if you do so and thanks in advance.

1050ti is what you need here or even the 6GB 1060
Strangely enough, I did end up getting a 1050ti.
I would suggest the GTX 1060 6GB, or RX 480 4/8GB. Doesn't really matter between the two. Just don't cheap out on them. You pretty much want atleast 4GB of VRAM since it's becoming the new standard, let's take Forza Horizon 3 as example, GTX 970's sometimes get an out of memory problem because of their 3.5GB VRAM issue.
However you also want to look at the features AMD/Nvidia deliver with it.
Which will fit what you're doing better? They both have almost the same featureset
except for a few differences.
Just take whichever features you like the most and base your card choice on that.

Any of them will be a great choice for 1080p, but I'd go with the 1060 for the better feature set. GeForce Experience with Nvidia Share is infinitely useful for capturing exciting moments as they happen, and other things like G-SYNC, Fast Sync, and LightBoost/ULMB (3D/G-SYNC monitor required for these two) help games run much smoother. AMD has FreeSync and a larger performance boost under DX12 on its side, but that's about it now that the AMD Gaming Evolved App is dead.
Don't worry about reaching 430W or even 480W on a 500W power supply.
I'm running an i5-4690k and R9 290 on a 500W supply which really almost hits the limit of how far it can go.
If you're strapped for cash then I always recommend looking on the clearance line of OverclockersUK. (Got my 290 for £120 from there)

Thank you SO MUCH for that link, it will be a great help. I wouldn't be too worried about my PSU if it was from a well-known brand such as Corsair but mine is a CIT one that came with my case. I have heard that people's PSUs have literally blown up and now I'm anxious about that.
with that comparison, clearly your best option is the 1060, depending on what you're playing, as long as it has more than 2GB vram, it should be fine... the 1050 TI can do battlefield 1 1080p, 60fps
TBH everything can run BF1 on high settings!
Uhmm, an AMD A8-5600K? Isn't that thing over 4 years old...
If you really don't want to use the RX 480, I'd go for the RX 470 since it isn't a big difference with the GTX 1060 but the RX 470 has 1GB more VRAM, so...
But first, you should search for a better CPU, something like the FX 8320E.

I said in the post that this was an outdated build, but i've saved up for nearly 1 and 1/2 years to get this amount of money and all I need right now is to get the most fps for my money. Later down the line when I find a job then I will replace all the parts in the system and use the GPU I decide on now.
