Accidentally messed up the visuals
I wanted to play in the 1.0 release and when I returned on the 1.8.9 i noticed the the brightness and texture of the blocks resembled the one seen in the older version. Too much light outside and the shadow in caves is horrendous.(especially the torches...) Can somebody help me out?

Returning to/from an old version using the same profile tends to reset all your settings. Either that or the old version didn't have all the fancy graphics settings that new ones do, so the defaults are those of the old version. For newer graphics settings, depending on what your computer can handle, set mipmap levels and anti-aliasing to relatively high values, and set smooth lighting to max. Alternatively, force the game to reset all the settings to default 1.8.9 options by deleting the settings file in .minecraft and launching 1.8.9 after that.

Did you change the graphic settings? Yes, it's quite annoying, I have to do it with controls

now, yes. is "smooth light: minimum" enough? it still looks a bit odd.
edit: no. not enough. i seriously need advice on this. i am not the best in gaming or... computers.

I am not a gamer(I hate the *ss shine stuff)
Maybe consider about optifine or check the graphic settings file in .minecraft
