Why is minecraft a block game?

When Notch created Minecraft he wanted the players to be creative. If everything was made out of, let's say circles, nothing would fit together properly. You couldn't build things! Also, pixels are square,, and it's much easier to make a square out of squares. Lol, that sounds funny.

Why is bedrock unmineable in Minecraft?

So that in survival you when your mining you don't just fall out of the world and lose all your diamonds. Jeb doesn't actually tell about his reasoning in adding it. It also makes it so there is actually a end to the Minecraft world, when going down at least. Bedrock was added on the tenth day of Minecraft development. 3 days after it was released to the public. Did you know that it's the only solid block in minecraft that a beacon can shine through. I'm sry that I couldn't be more helpfu l.

Why are there little islands that just float for no reason

Minecraft is randomly generated, meaning things like that happened. Have you ever stopped to wonder why Minecraft worlds aren't constistant, that's why. Everything follows a basic guide line, so there isn't ocean in the sky and villages aren't TO messed up. It's why you will sometimes find sand and gravel floating. It's like a very complicated dice. At least, that's my understanding of it. If your really interested, I think Mojang as been interviewed on things like that.

it you mean stripped wood: Well, Minecraft developers just thought it would allow more building options and it would look better than plain old logs. :D

No, I mean petrified wood, the wood slab that needs to be mined with a pick.

Oh!! It's actually not a new block, (i know you didn't say it was new), but a block they brought back from the earlier versions of minecraft. it was obtainable until 1.2.5. Did that answer your question? There is also a petrified wood head. lol.
