One of my personal favorites was Transcendence. That movie was just put together so well, and as far as movies go it didn't have too many plot holes.
Oh, and let's not forget Monty Python and the Holy Grail, for "superb" production with a very low budget. XD

I would say my favorite movie is Django Unchained. I did not expect it to be that good, but it is really a great western movie packed with a bunch of action.
Taken is also one of my favorites, mostly because of how the main character always were prepared.

Interstellar is a great movie, but if you don't keep up you'll have a screwed brain and, if you're watching it in the movies or on a really high def TV, burnt out eyes, even in non-3D.
I cant pick favorites because I honestly haven't watched enough good movies or remember any of the good ones, but if I had to pick some, Inception, Blair Witch Project, Lord of the Rings series + The Hobbit(s),and Harry Potter (all of them)

-The fifth element -Galaxy Quest
-Wayne's World -Sweeny Todd
-Small Soldiers -Kingdom of Heaven
-Elvira Mistress of the Dark -Young Frankenstein
-Harlock: Space Pirate (All Japanese but very good animation)
-Soloman Kane

Shawshank redemption isn't listed as not for kids?
I have four truly favorite movies
1) The Sting
2) Casino Royale
3) Catch me if you Can
4) The Godfather
Whilst not forgetting (I love all of these movies)
Pirates of the Caribbean
The Lord of the Rings
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
The Good the Bad and the Ugly
Anchorman (I despise the second one)
The Prestige
Now You See Me
Christopher Nolan's Batman Trilogy
Inception
The Original Planet of the Apes
The Wolf of Wall Street
Boiler Room - Boiler room is a very good movie because it is based on Jordan Belfort's stock firm (which is what The Wolf of Wall Street is based on, however, the Wolf of Wall Street Highlight's Jordan Belfort's life at the top. He lives extravagantly and it only focuses on him) Boiler room shows someone working for Belfort. This character goes through a tough time as he learns the secrets of the company and its fraudulent practices. It also focuses on one of the "clients" who was screwed over and it resulted in his life being left in rags. A very good movie after watching the Wolf of Wall Street.
Interstellar was a good movie, I recommend you see it, but I certainly wouldn't call it anywhere near my favorite.
I like to watch movies, if you have any classics please let me know so that I can watch it and hopefully add it to my list. If you need a recommendation for what movie to watch next let me know the types of movies you like because I have seen a lot of movies in a lot of different genres.
Note: Christopher Nolan's movies are a masterpiece, I recommend watching Inception and the Batman Trilogy. He worked closely with Hans Zimmer, a truly brilliant movie scorer to create absolutely beautiful soundtracks to the movies. This is particularly highlighted in Nolan's newest movie, Interstellar, but it is certainly apparent in Inception.

I read the books, therefore, they can't be the best movies.
They're still amazing, though, just not on the same level as others.

Lord of the Rings. (Not that Hobbit trash.)
Star Wars movies 4-6
And the Harry Potter movies were okayish.

I found a great movie on Netflix called The Great Magician. While its all in Chinese it was pretty good. And Devil's Carnival was a very interesting movie with some very hot music.
