It depends on your pvp skill and crit hitting skill. If you're a good pvper you should pick 1.8 always. But since crits are a big part of 1.9 pvp if you're a major Crit-hitter pick any version above 1.9

Spam clicking isn't really fun. About "axes being better than swords": that's a weird thing to say, they do more damage but they're way slower.

For me, I prefer 1.8 as 1.9-1.11 completely broke the pvp system. You can combo kill and rekt on 1.7 back and forth

DEFINITELY 1.8. They ruined pvp in 1.9. In 1.9 axes are actually better than swords. They added sweep, you end up hurting your team mates. That's just my opinion though xD no one likes my view of things, lol.

Attack speed for axes is horrible. So are table enchantments, so not a good idea... People use swords.

Make the server 1.11 (The version most of the players are on + new features & less bugs), and if you want the old pvp back, then download a lightweight plugin.

1.11.2 for sure since the combat got fixed in 1.9.
