In the word scent, the C is actually silent. The S provides the "s" sound, and the C is there because of the word's Latin origins, where the spelling influenced the pronunciation in English, even though the C isn't voiced.

Cent with a "c" is money, so it makes sense that the "c" in scent is silent or else it would refer to currency rather than the smell of something
