Local chat ... or no local chat

i made the switch over to local chat on my server recently, mainly due to the following:
few people talking a lot taking over chat talking a lot
talking with npc questers got mixed up in chat a lot
talking to denizen guys was broadcast over server confusing everyone
when lots of people on = lots of chat
plus its more rpg style which is the feel im going for on the server
im getting some good feedback and some bad - including some new people turning up and talking but noone hearing due to range then them leaving
i just wondered what people generally felt about it and if it was the norm now

good idea thanks for the suggestion.
i do find some people become a little confused and end up shouting in the wrong channel and getting frustrated noone is replying XD
but i suppose not much i can do about that

Well how about making it so there is a public universal chat channel that people can leave and join whenever they feel like chatting trading or such. This way they people who want it for trading or whatever will have it and those questing will not.
