{OOC} Dragons of Crag [Forum Roleplay]
This came much sooner than expected because my friends can type faster than flash runs (Like 500 words every 3 minutes, how the heck are they doing this!).
Continent of Demaren:
Ibian:
Province of Garin:
Transportation: The discovery of dragons (and the fact that they could be bred and trained) opened up a whole new way of getting from point A to point B. Flying dragons are trained to carry more than one passenger but are expensive to use and are only used for the rich or emergency military means. Most rich Garinians are reluctant to spend weeks on end in a carriage when they can just as easily spend a few days via dragonback so the option is very popular despite the huge monetary cost.
Fighting: Fighting is mainly for the Pits. Located pretty much anywhere there is space, Pits are habited by Pit Trainers who use the facilities to fight their dragons. Being a Pit Trainer is considered highly desirable despite the always present danger of getting mauled or eaten by your own stock. The more fights you have won the more money you make from the betting. Certain fights are broadcasted all over the city and Pit Trainers often hire small children to go around the cities, informing people of the fight. Watching fights is a highly popular pastime and most of the famous fights attract people from all over The Province of Garin. The commoners watch the low-key fights as admission to the popular ones can run a pretty penny. Pit Trainers are always looking to hire people to go to the Crags and get Cragon eggs. Why? Because Cragons are smarter, more powerful and generally less inbred than the domesticated breeds. Although a Cragon may never fight (no one wants a smart dragon in the ring; especially one who views the opponent as small fry while the person who starved and beat them is right over there....) it will be used to strengthen the breeding stock. A good breeding Cragon can have phenomenal stud fees.
There are fights that are not by Pit Trainers and are usually people with pets that don’t want them anymore. These fights usually never end well or never end at all. Pet Dragons are specifically chosen for their handlability and mellow personalities. Often the pets refuse to fight or one doesn’t want to while the other rips it to shreds. Sometimes the owner, to whip the dragon into rage, starve or beat them before they go into the ring. This almost always backfires because most pet dragons have never seen another dragon before and will turn on the creature that has handled them the most; humans. Although the Royal Family has outlawed these unsanctioned fights (for public safety) they still happen.
War: Each dragon has a purpose in war. The smaller, faster breeds are used to carry messages back and forth. Heavier, flying dragons are used for air fighting. Ground dragons are used as kind of an uber cavalry as no horse would willingly charge into a dragon if it could prevent it. The larger flying dragons are used as scouts. Not much info here because unless you are describing the entire battle between your Lord/Duke and another Lord/Duke (which you shouldn’t be because they would never be actually watching the battle and putting themselves in harms way) you don’t need a whole bunch of description over what the dragons are doing during battle. Even if you are a Military Rider you should focus on your own dragon, not others.
Pets/Guarding: Kind of ties into guarding. Pet dragons are the smaller breeds. If the dragons have wings but the owner does not want to ruin the dragon look by cutting them off, special dragon doctors can sever certain nerves in the shoulder area so the wings will never fully extend. It is a dangerous procedure, however, and there is a high chance the dragon will die or need to have its wings amputated anyway. For the rich and/or vain it is a popular choice and dragons for whom the procedure has failed are often left on the streets while the owner goes to buy a new hatchling. Loppolon sells ‘pet grade’ dragons for high prices but if someone was not picky they could also get one from Trainers although those ones are more likely to be ‘not pet material’. Dragons are often fitted with special heavy metal collars that are welded together once it is on the dragon’s neck. Since the collar has to fit snugly when they are adults the collars are made quite large and often hamper hatchling movements. Collars can be cheap and badly made or expensive and made of precious metals. All collars have a ring in the front for chaining and some metal smiths offer the choice of branding your name onto the collar.
The hatchlings are often shown off to friends and spoiled because most are cute and rather non-dangerous. However, once the hatchling grows up five in six owners send them outside and never bring them inside again. Outside dragons may or may not have a feeding dish, water bowl, and house. All are chained to something with heavy metal links that may or may not be welded to the collar ring. This is where guarding dragons come in. A hatchling attached to a family/house will protect it as its instincts dictate. Thus, dragons are given very long chains to patrol the area and grounds. Dragons often kill intruders and a house with a dragon chained up outside will mostly be avoided by thieves. Some owners starve their dragons periodically so they will be more inclined to kill and eat the intruders. There are many reports of rampant dragons breaking their chains and storming the surrounding areas. Rampant dragons are always killed by the guard, no exceptions, and the owner is given a small but tidy sum depending on how much damage it did (no matter how expensive the dragon there needs to be something to fix up the damage).
Breeding: And this one does deserve its own area. All right so first an overview of the Loppolon breeding grounds and what goes on there. Three major buildings make up the Breeding Grounds (the Loppolon ones are always referred to with capital letters because they are considered the ultimate breeding grounds): The Housing Unit, The Pens, and the Butchers Building.
Housing Unit: Broken into three areas: Rider and Apprentice. Employees. Apprentice Employees.
Rider and Apprentice: where Riders and apprentice Riders sleep, eat, etcetera. They have a separate eating area and some Riders bring their own servants. These servants are merely placed with the Apprentices as the Housing Units do not have a servants area yet. Since Apprentices are often male and servants often female there is a lot of rape and general sex. Servants, however, are not supposed to complain so they do not. Rider quarters are all separate and very lavish (in comparison). Apprentices are all lumped together in one room with plenty of three story bunk beds.
Employees: Butchers, Kitchen workers, fully fledged Dragon Boys, miscellaneous paid employees. The quarters are separate and have their own washrooms. Pretty plain compared to the Riders but serviceable.
Apprentice Employees: (often called Dragon Snacks, or Snacks for short). Most of the employees start out as Dragon Boys. Dragon Boys are responsible for cleaning the pens, ministrating to the more docile dragons, trying to ministrate to the less docile dragons, stealing eggs from nests, and feeding dragons. As evidenced by their nicknames, Dragon boys do not last very long. Often they are killed or eaten by dragons, sometimes by accident sometimes not. It is a customary ‘greeting’ to push a new Boy into the pen with the meanest, nastiest dragon. They weed out the true weaklings that way. Dragon boys wash the dragons every day, or try to wash them. The very docile ones are given a full massage, claw cleaning, scale rubbing and polishing etcetera. The meaner ones get buckets thrown at them in the hopes one will splash them and clean it a little. OR, if they are not quite so mean, they are led to the bathing area where they can swim in a massive pond. If a Dragon Boy survives for three months he begins to get paid for his work and moves into the Employees Unit.
Other: Some parts of the Housing Unit are being unused and those parts are where the bookkeepers, breeders, sales people etcetera set up office or hang out. Some do not even live at the Breeding Grounds and only come in to work.
The Pens: Are divided according to Dragon Size and Species. The walls are stone reinforced with steel bars. There are two rows of pens, back to back with a walkway in front of them. This is repeated all the way down the line but the pens end just before the outside building walls and thus there is a pathway around them as well. Each back to back row of pens is, in theory, meant for one species. However, sometimes there is overload and other pens are filled up with different species. There are three different ‘groups of pens’ all separated by buildings and/or high stone walls. One is for Females, one is for Males, and the last for Hatchlings and eggs. Dragons, wild or not, are all fitted with a metal collar and a ring. The collars are of good quality, nothing fancy. Each pen has a ring in the far right corner of the pen that is heavy, huge, and attached to a long line of thick metal underground that runs through the entire facility and provides strength for the only thing stopping the dragons from killing everybody. Each dragon is chained to this ring with chains differing according to the species. The chains are only long enough to allow the dragon full range of the pen while keeping away from the walkway. The pens are full of sand for maximum efficiency in cleaning them. This is often not what the particular species is used to but most dragons accept it readily. For troublesome dragons a large metal grate is placed over the walkway area to ensure safety. The grate can only be moved via a series of pulleys and levers. Every pen has one but most are left open. Every pen also has a grate on top to prevent flying.
There is a ‘mating area’ which is basically a large open space with an unmovable grate on top to prevent flying. Docile dragons are brought into the Mating Area and let off their chains. Not so docile dragons are a different matter. First, all of the grates on all pens are closed. A Dragon Boy (or many, depending if the first one succeeds) is sent to unhook the planned dragons chain (using a long grasping tool). The dragons gate is smashed open to startle it so it moves out of the pen. The only door/grates left open are the ones that lead to the Mating Area where a fe/male may or may not be waiting. The fe/male does eventually get there and after the mating has occurred the dragon (both if both are not docile) is fed drugged meat. The drug is dangerous and can be fatal if not administered in the right dosage so it is not used often but it makes the recipient very docile and sleepy. A Dragon Boy (or more) is then sent in to retrieve the dragon by grabbing the chain and pulling it back to the pen where it is once again hooked to the ring.
Gravid females are moved to the special Egg Laying pens in the Female section. The pens are larger and have ample space to make a nest. Once the eggs are laid the female is forced back into her normal pen (they fight the entire way, not wanting to be separated from their eggs) and the eggs are brought to the Hatchery where they are heated, turned etcetera until they hatch. The Hatchery is heated with giant furnaces and is very, very hot inside. Yet the eggs must be turned every four hours. The job is often given to the Dragon Boys.
Hatchlings are first fitted with a ‘hatchling collar’ which is a smaller version of the adult collar. They, too have pens with rings and such but theirs is much smaller and less reinforced. The hatchlings are then fed and pampered by their potential Riders. One potential Rider may have up to three hatchlings he is pampering at a time, just in case one ends up dying, unfit to ride etcetera. Breeders at the Loppolon breeding grounds cull certain hatchlings from the pens every week or so. Some are sold to people for pets, other given to Trainers, sometimes one is pulled for war, and sometimes they are merely killed and fed as a delicacy to the rich.
There is a training ground at the Loppolon breeding facility as well but it is mainly a giant field occasionally with targets set up and is not really worth mentioning.
Bordertowns:
Bordertowns lie on the edge of the Jiija and Garin. They are well known as places of sin and debauchery, mostly because that’s what attracts the Ibian to them. There are many Bordertowns and none of them really have names because they could be abandoned any day and most are ill equipped to deal with the occasional sandstorms. Most Bordertowns are run by Clanless who have married a Garinian (or vice versa) or outlaws hiding where the Garinian and Ibian arm of the law can’t reach them. It is easy to find people willing to risk the Jiija and Ibian in order to steal Crag Dragon eggs. In fact, most of them are sport hunters or dragon hunters. It’s one of the ways they are paid to do what they want and all they have to do is bring back some eggs or hatchlings (not including the trophies). Of course, the hunters that are adept at keeping the spoils alive are most sought out.
Although the Royal Family frowns upon the Bordetowns and what they represent they also secretly keep them alive with trade. Slavery is outlawed in both Ibian and Garinian society, except in Bordertowns. Abandoned Mutt children, stupid Ibian teenagers, drunk Garinian thrill-seekers, all are prey to the ploys of the Slavers. After capturing the new Slave they are taken to one of the many Garinian coal/ore etc. mines hidden throughout the area. Sometimes they are marked, sometimes not, but all are shackled and hobbled so they can’t run away. Life for a slave is short but, fortunately, there is no shortage. Many of the items that come from the mines are traded to The Province of Garin and used in everyday life.
Ottar
I won’t put much here as their culture is open but there are a few things you must keep in mind.
Ottar is very well connected to the world outside of Demaren and has a diverse population. Ottar has not had much contact with The Province of Garin. Occasionally a party will come through the mountains but it is rare. Ottar has had NO contact with the Ibian or the Jiija.
Ottar has an Emperor. The Emperor’s children are referred to as Exalted One, his wife Her Eminence, his mother and father Graceful Ones. If the Emperor is a woman nothing changes.
Do you remember the Ibian religion? Well, it’s partly true. Dragons were once elsewhere besides merely the Crags. Which is how the Emperor became interested with the Garinian dragons. If it wasn’t for them; he would have no interest in The Province of Garin.
Crag Dragons
*ahem* Some basic facts about Dragons that is true for every species: All dragons lay eggs with clutches anywhere from one to eight. All dragons have a common ancestor. Dragons with similar features are more closely related to those who have different features. It is possible, but unlikely, for any species of dragon to breed with any other species and usually they are sterile or have enough behavioural problems that they don’t last long. Dragons stop growing once they reach full maturity. The longer lived and larger breeds may take longer to get there than the smaller ones. All Crag Dragons are intelligent, they just don’t speak using actual words humans can understand and are thus considered no less than beasts. Despite this intelligence a dragon is still overcome by instincts which also contributes to the animal label.
The Flying dragons have several evolutionary adaptations to help with being able to fly in the first place. They have hollow bones and their scales are made of a very light, biological material that is actually hollow. Dragons that have wings usually have massive ones, at least four times their body size. They also have excrement similar to birds and excrete when scared, about to take off, and well, a lot. Some of the larger flying species can also regurgitate at will if they have need to take off immediately.
Some dragons are known to speak human language and many an owner has been delighted at their pets croaking and hissing mutilation of language. Dragons that spit acid, fire, anything cannot speak because they have a different type of throat set up. Dragons that can speak often make the loudest and varied sounds.
All dragons, whether wild or domestic have the urge to hoard things that fascinate them. Whether that be hair, other dragons, glittery objects, or a specific species of tree, they WILL collect it. Sometimes (especially if the dragon has no established living space) they will take it, admire it, then lose interest and drop it. The domestic breeds are very prone to this. If a dragon has a higher ‘hoarding’ gene it will secret the items in a safe place and often sleep on them. They become very agitated if anyone approaches their treasure and many an owner has been mauled by a dragon protecting its hoard. It has also caused trouble for the Egg Expeditions as a dragon protecting its hoard and a dragon protecting eggs reacts the same way.
All dragons also have a territory. It could be a branch in a flock dragon or an entire mountain. Whatever it is, the dragon will defend it viciously against intruders. Flying dragons often have larger territories than ground dragons. Ground and flying dragon territories may overlap without problems because usually a flying dragons territory is air concentrated. Usually the species of dragons don’t bother each other (or bother with each other) unless a dragon of similar size enters their territory. Colossal’s have been known to kill large dragons and flocks of tiny dragons may mob a medium. Dragons that have similar eating habits may also encounter and subsequently fight one another.
Often, dragons will hold a Council. This is a peaceful gathering of dragons with the intent on discussing something. Every dragon is welcome to attend and a strict peace policy is enforced by volunteers. It is usually the elderly and infertile dragons that initiate the Council’s.
Crag Dragons are often much more intelligent than the humans bred and captured dragons. This is because in the Crags, smarts keeps you alive and able to procreate. The humans breed dragons for looks which watered down the gene pool, resulting in some very stupid dragons, not so stupid, and mildly stupid. Once in a blue moon a human bred dragon is born that is intelligent but it is often ignored because it is not as ‘tractable’ as the other hatchlings
Legend for Size: since each dragon’s species can be smaller or larger than the average I shall be classifying them as: Colossal, large, medium, small and tiny. (house size, elephant size, horse size, dog size, cat size)
Dragon Types:
PLOT (Thank my friends for all of this):
The Ottaris are interested in a union between the current Princess of Garin and their own Emperor’s Child (Exalted One). They have sent a small party to Garin for discussions about the union. However, the Emperor has already expressed interest in Dragons, resulting in an overload of breeding in Loppolon. This has caused many deaths, dragon and human, as overcrowding starts to strain the facilities. (maximum five main Ottaris characters; the rest are all-controllable NPC’s)
Not only is Loppolon becoming overcrowded because of new selling prospects but also because the Royal Family has decreed war on the Ibian (tired of having to sneak into the Crags to get eggs). Since the only way to safely navigate the Jiija without Ibian scouts is by dragonback, flying dragons are being bred en masse. There hasn’t been an official announcement (Ibian do occasionally come into the deeper Province areas) but the breeding, blacksmiths, and gathering of the army pretty much speaks for itself.
The next generation of Ibian’s chafe under their elder’s rules. They witness Garin’s flying, taming, and living with dragons. They also notice how easy the Garinian’s have it. Many Ibian’s already sneak into the Garinian border towns for fun they cannot get in Jiija. A group of next generation Ibian’s have created an underground group with the intention of changing the face of Ibian culture. One of the smaller groups has started taking Garinian Egg Expeditions into the Crag mountains and helping them procure Wild hatchlings/eggs. In exchange, they receive Garin money which can be used at the border towns.
The Crag Dragons are finally noticing the theft of their eggs and occasionally hatchlings. Deciding that the soft vermin were the cause they began planning a war of their own. The elders may not be able to reach an agreement but the younglings certainly have. Or, at least, reach two halves of an agreement. They have all agreed that something needs to be done but one half decides a full frontal assault is required and the other an infiltration.
*Theses plot points are merely starting you off. If you want to play a Follow the Leaf Garinian who infiltrates the Loppolon breeding grounds and attempts to free all the dragons, you can. Just note it will result in mass confusion, mass hysteria, possibly your own death and the deaths of many, many others. (Which means; THINK about your plot before you decide to implement it).

I don't expect any posts to be absolutely spectacularly long. I do expect coherent interesting posts. I also expect everyone involved to be able to post at least 3-4 times a week. For people who are looking for a fast RP: this is not one.
If you are in a conversation or a fight feel free to PM each other then put your posts into one coherent post in the RP.
Some questions asked by my friends:
No, this RP is not a heavy magic RP. Magic is limited and dragons cannot do any magic at all.
Yes, industrial era guns are allowed but they are rare, expensive, and not that reliable.
No, there are no other mythical or legendary creatures. Feel free to introduce your own made up creature.
This is more medieval-era-ish (well, mostly for the Ibian).
No, dragons cannot take human form.

I know it looks long and fabulous, but only because my friends type as fast as light (and maybe the fact we've been working on it for a few hours)
Well, this sums it all up.

Continent of Demaren:
Click to reveal
The Crag Mountains are the largest mountain range on Demaren, running from the Province of Garin to the very end of the Jiija (desert). They end in massive cliffs overlooking the endless sea. The largest river in Demaren runs right through the mountains, leaping off mountainsides in roaring conflagrations and trickling through porous rocks, it has two names: the Garinians call it The Kime (ky-mee) and the Ibian call it Freeai (or life-giver).
The land of Demaren is divided into two sections: the temperate rainforest (Province of Garin and Ottar) and the desert (Jiija). The Jiija Crags are less dangerous and more penetrable than the Garin Crags. Thus, Garin humans try to enter the Crags through the Jiija. Ottar is a land relatively unknown to both the Ibian and Garinians, it is defined by a small mountain range called The Ottarian Family which are relatively new (for mountain ranges) and thus completely impenetrable.
(Note: if you want to play your own completely made up culture feel free to play an Ottaris. There is a cap on them, however, which will be explained later)

Ibian:
Click to reveal
The Ibian are desert dwellers, living off the bounty of the Jiija. And, yes, there is bounty. The Jiija is home to many tiny desert-dwelling creatures that live under the sand during the heat of the day and come out to hunt in the night. If you know where to look there is also plenty of plant life and watering holes. However, the further you go into the Jiija the more inhospitable it becomes, usually degenerating into constantly fluctuating sand dunes.
The Ibian are dark skinned and weathered from the wind and sun. They wear different styles of clothing depending on the time of day. During the coldest they usually cover their bodies in a wrap. During the hottest, they discard most of their clothing; some have even been known to run around naked. Jewellery made from dragon bones, teeth, claws, etc. are often worn. Males have been known to pierce their ears and females often tangle them in their hair. Females and males are equal but the obvious distinctions because of certain sex-derived talents do exist. They are short by nature (jokingly said because of the winds wearing them down). They have healers known as Shamans who do not persist in chanting and waving fetishes but instead prescribe something that is known to work.
The Ibian have few cities, most of them small outposts that may move around depending on how long the water supply lasts, but one large city is Yaair. Located near one of the largest and easiest entrances to the Crags it serves as a haven for wandering Ibian and a severe deterrent for Garin raiders. Yaair is not very large, barely six thousand people and occupies a very small parcel of land. However, it employs a very large army used solely for protecting the pass.
Ibian culture is based around survival. Nomad groups are often a mixture of one or two families travelling together. Frequently, other groups join, break off, or abandon the nomad life for city dwelling. No Ibian harbours ill will towards another and common greeting is “may water grace your feet”. The Ibian are very distrustful of strangers and any person travelling through the desert must prove they are Ibian before being welcomed into the tents for food and drink. Ones who cannot are turned away or killed depending on how persistent they are. The only official way to prove your Ibian heritage is to display your clan tattoo.
Clans are family groups of Ibian, each possesses a symbol and a lineage. There are thousands of them but they all originated from only a handful. When someone marries into a clan they are combining two clans so the symbols are combined. The husband receives his wife’s tattoo and the wife receives her husband’s tattoo. The children are given the resulting tattoo until they, too, marry into a clan and adopt their significant other’s tattoo. Clan tattoo’s can become very large as generation after generation marry into each other. It is not uncommon to see an Ibian with a Clan Tattoo that covers their entire body.
Every Ibian follows the same religion. They believe the Freeai originates from the womb of the Mother and poured from between her legs to give life to the world. But, Mother’s Sister (also known as Teria) grew jealous of Mother’s creations and decided to create her own. She took a shard of the moon and sliced open her veins. With every drop of blood that hit the sand grew a Dragon and they were mighty creatures. Mother saw what her sister had done and feared for her children so she created The Crags and banished the creatures there. Sister grew furious at this and fashioned her Dragons wings out of sand and mud, thus enabling them to fly over the Crag Mountains and kill Mother’s children. Mother and Sister fought forever, Sister giving her dragons fire and magic, Mother giving her children intelligence and fortitude. In the end, Mother triumphed and chained Sister to the top of the highest Crag (Teria’s Chain) as punishment. However, Mother could not kill Sisters creations in cold blood so she took away their intelligence and magic, making them none better than beasts.
Ibian’s do not worship Crag Dragons but they do respect and fear them. They believe that the Dragons should be left alone and any Ibian found with a hatchling or egg is killed immediately. Often, they find the body of an adult dragon as the Crag Dragons come down from their mountains to die. The Ibians use every piece of the dragon (hide for clothing, scales for bowls, intestine for water carrying, etc.) Pieces that are left over may be used as decorations and in Garin authentic Ibian dragon jewellery goes for a pretty penny.
Any Ibian who follows Garin or foreign ways immediately rejects their clan status and become outcasts. This includes Ibian who wants to marry outside of the Jiija, become friends with Clanless (foreigners), etc.

Province of Garin:
Click to reveal
The Province of Garin is a lush forest area, mostly made up of temperate rainforest, although many of the Cliffside forests approach true rainforest status. The bounty from the land is rich and plentiful, resulting in factions, war, and laziness. There are three main cities: Korvar, Loppolon, and Vera. Vera is known for its rainforest area and high houses due to flooding. Korvar is an industrial city that exports all of its manufactured goods to areas around the Province of Garin. Loppolon is famous because of its extensive dragon breeding grounds and always available job status.
Garinian women are highly prized in society and the sign of a ‘noble’ and ‘good’ man is his wife. A man’s job his entire life is to provide for his wife and make certain she doesn’t have to do anything at all. A woman’s job is to find a man who will be able to do that. In the common areas this is less prevalent but cases of men working themselves literally to death in order to provide for their wives are common. However, husbands are not the only ones obligated to take care of their females. Fathers must provide for their daughters, including marrying them to a wealthier-than-them husband. Brothers must provide for their sisters by making certain their sisters never lift a finger and contributing their earnings to the household money. Sons must care for their mothers when they become old and feeble. Etcetera, etcetera.
It is encouraged for women to take up ‘hobbies’. Which may be anything from singing to basket weaving. These are considered hobbies because not only does it pass the time but it also makes no money. In Garinian society it is considered a great insult to give a woman money as that is insinuating whoever takes care of them cannot do it properly. Woman must also never touch or handle money for no particular reason other than the Garinians find it disgusting. There are women who will break the mould and start their own business and such. They are considered vulgar and may even be treated as men in society, sometimes going as far as being expected to marry another woman. Some of the entrepreneurs wear men’s clothing and cut their hair to perpetuate the idea.
Garin is a primarily medieval place with some beginnings of industrial. Most of its resources, however, are pooled towards the dragons. There are over a hundred different Factions (plots of land owned by a Duke (not of noble lineage) or Lord (of noble lineage) and each Faction is at war with another Faction or plotting war against a Faction it is currently allied to. To battle they use the dragons. Despite the fact that Loppolon has such extensive breeding grounds the introduction of new blood is always desired so the Dukes and Lords pay people to bring them dragon eggs. Loppolon has profited from this greed by staying neutral and raising, breeding, and selling dragons to all the Factions.
Each Faction trains Riders to fight from dragonback (often using spears or arrows as well as dragons natural weapons). Ironically, all the Riders reside at the Loppolon Fighting Facilities as factions do not have the resources to house dragons. This causes problems when previous bunk mates must fight to the death on dragonback. Loppolon has secretly remedied this by convincing Riders they need the drug Yutun before every battle to stay focused. Yutun is a dried leaf that, when taken orally, incites great bloodlust and manic behaviour.
Not only are dragons used in battles but also in fighting rings. Often located far from civilisation, dragon rings are epic battles between dragons with people betting money or worldly goods on which one will win. Eggs that are rejected by Loppolon often end up in the hands of Trainers who hatch the egg themselves and train it to fight. To do this first the dragons wings are amputated so it can’t fly away. The dragon is then starved for the first few weeks of its life resulting in a smaller than average beast. By its first year of life it is ready for its first fight. Fights are merely two dragons chained up on one side of a large ring. Both are males and are usually left to aggravate each other while people arrive. When the fight begins both males chains are broken and they fight until one dies. A good Trainer often has over fifteen prime fighting males at one time. A rich Trainer may actually breed their dragons for better fighters. Ones that are rejected are either sold to other Trainers to use as ‘practice dragons’ or used by the breeding Trainer themselves for their own champions to fight against.
There are three major religions in Garin: Follow the Leaf, Jimani, and Orok.
Follow the Leaf believes all creatures are connected telepathically and every item on Demaren is the result of some happy and peaceful god waving his hand in love. They are very much against dragon fighting and Riders. Often, they are seen picketing Loppolon streets and throwing dragons blood at known Trainers. Where they obtained the dragons blood is unknown and they appear to always have large quantities of it.
Jimani is a religion that believes the god Jimani is ruler over everything and is human, therefore all non-humans are bad. The Ibian are considered non-human as are dragons. More extreme followers will go around killing other animals such and spiders and rabbits ‘in the name of Jimani’. The actual beliefs of the Jimani are foggy as they are more than likely to be spouting off racial slurs than preaching Jimani’s word to the people. As an interesting note: the Jimani have been the creators of all racial slurs inside the Province of Garin. Most notably and the most persistent are Cragons for wild dragons and Mummers for the Ibian.
Orok is a lax religion, allowing many different beliefs to come into and flourish. The one thing that is consistent, however, is the warmongering. All Orok followers are required to endorse war and many work in the Korvar factories that create weapons. Orok encourages contributions to war efforts and drafting. During war, Orok followers are seen celebrating in the streets. There is a rumour going around that the Factions created Orok so people would be more inclined to help with the constant fighting but so far it has stayed unproven.
The Province of Garin is ruled by one family (simply the Royal Family) and rulership is inherited. The family is only allowed to marry Lords, preferably a Lord with a large Faction. The Royal Family is extensive, with at least a hundred lines and sublines. The two in charge are the King and Queen. All others below them are Princes (male) and Princesses (female). If a Lord’s child marries a child with Royal blood the Lord profits vicariously with prestige. Thus, the Princes and Princesses are in great demand as marriage prospects. All Royal Family live in one Faction, located near the middle of Province of Garin, and called Piana. It is the largest Faction with the most amount of people. The immediate Royal Family is rarely seen except during balls and parties where all Lords are invited to mingle and create or break alliances.
Dragons are a large part of Garinian society. They are used for: transportation, fighting, war, pets, guarding, and breeding.
Dragons are a large part of Garinian society. They are used for: transportation, fighting, war, pets, guarding, and breeding.
Click to reveal
Wild:
Red Dragon
Species: Red Dragon
Age Averages: 140-230 years
Size: Colossal
Type: Wild
Location: Red Dragons live in the middle of the mountains.
Habits: Red Dragons are colored various shades of red. Their hot spots (genitals, mouth, ears, feet etc.) are darker than their bodies. They have a lizard-like build for their legs in order to help with climbing. Rough pads on their feet are excellent grippers. They sport red crests made of membrane and spines that raises when they are angry or startled. During the breeding season the crest turns a bright orange. This particular species has spiney protrusions from it’s jowls and eye ridges. They are very flexible and possess the ability to almost curl entirely into a ball.
They live in massive caves, sometimes carved by themselves or stolen from other Red Dragons. They are normally attracted to bones and have been known to kill creatures just for their bones. This is easily accomplished because of their fire breath which, while able to scorch is not able to burn bone. A Red Dragon’s territory is often a large span of mountain. With their bodies built specifically for climbing they can easily navigate the many cliffs and capture prey.
During mating season the female Red Dragons (who are never bound to a territory for long) will go off in search of a mate. Male’s will attract the female with displays of fire breathing shot into the sky. Once the female is at their cave they will posture and show off their physique as well as their hoard. If a female is dissatisfied she will promptly turn tail and leave. Sometimes a male will prevent her from leaving whereupon a struggle will ensue. If the male wins he claims the female as his mate, unfortunately with the added bonus of one that will try to sneak away whenever he is occupied. This usually results in a starving dragon as he becomes paranoid about leaving her alone to hunt whereupon the female (with her slower metabolism during her heat) merely walks out. If the female wins she will often kill the male and eat him to gain energy for her trek to the next cave.
Once a mate is found the female will raise her clutch in the male’s cave, being waited upon. Once the hatchlings have grown enough that they are exploring outside the cave she will leave to find her own cave until the next breeding season. The male, having no female around to cater to, will sometimes feed the hatchlings for a while before the breeding haze wears off and he chases them away.
Red Dragons are known for being unpredictable and wild. Even a Red Dragon taken while an egg and raised by humans usually ends up violent. They often have periods of unexplained rage where they roar, spit fire, and kill anything that crosses their path. No one knows why these periods happen but it is speculated that they are a way of letting off dangerous gas build up from their fire breath.
Geshan Dragon (Thank you Sean, we really did need the extension to this)
Species: Geshan Dragon
Age Averages: 10-30yrs
Size: Tiny
Type: Wild
Location: Valley’s.
Habits: Geshan’s are flock dragons and can have up to four hundred in one group. They are striped in green and yellow with beady black eyes. Notorious for their poor eyesight they are easily caught by other animals. Geshan’s have long, sticky tongues for grabbing insects and often eat while they are flying. Their wings are protected by a thin covering of scales along the top and, while resting, they wrap their wings around themselves and become a veritable shield. They have tiny spines that run the length of their bodies, down to the long whip like tails.
Geshan’s territories are defined by their mate’s. A male will claim one female for themselves and defend her from any other males. When a clutch is laid (usually in a tree) the male will pace outside of the nest and defend it with his life. The female’s are notorious for not defending their nests and, if the male dies, simply leaving the clutch. Geshan’s breed profusely and a single clutch can be up to eight eggs at once. Geshan hatchlings grow up in a matter of days and are ready to leave the nest at a week. Incest is common in flocks as the hatchlings don’t usually leave the flock and the males will claim pretty much any female they desire.
Geshan’s are known to be easy to catch and hard to keep. Many people cannot provide the necessary insects and the only way to make them eat is to let them fly around and eat which results in an escaping Geshan. As a result there are no derivatives of Geshan’s in the domestic dragon population. The ones that are caught die quickly and will refuse to breed to any other dragon besides a similar Geshan.
Known as simple minded pests by most other dragons, Geshan’s are often caught and killed for sport. They have a tendency towards screaming at the break of dawn (with barn owl like noise) and invading other dragons homes with their curiosity. They are usually left out of Council’s and don’t seem to care all that much.
Silver Dragon
Species: Silver Dragon
Age Averages: 5-20yrs
Size: Large
Type: Wild
Location: Water sources.
Habits: Silver Dragons are long and thin with almost completely flat scales and wings built more for propelling them through water than flying. Although they can glide, not many Silver’s do this as their short legs present a hazard when landing. They eat mostly aquatic animals although they sometimes snack on animals that come to drink. The males and females are sexually dimorphic. Females have long ‘whisker’ tendrils on their jaw and possess almost vestigial limbs as they live most of their time in the water. Males travel during the breeding season so their limbs are more developed. Males also have the ability to swallow water and spit it back up in short bursts at bone-shattering speeds. This technique is usually used for fighting other males at a females watering hole.
Silver’s usually collect well, silver. Anything that resembles their shiny greyness is collected and stored underwater. This, unfortunately, also expands to their own silver coloured eggs and many an egg has been abandoned at the bottom of a lake. Hatchling Silver’s normally venture from the nest after a year in their mother’s grasp. Normally, they claim creeks and rivers before they get large enough to challenge another Silver for a lake. Waterfalls are not favoured by females because of the dangers to hatchlings.
Silver’s are known to be playful and mischievous. They often play and a sibling will play pranks on its clutch mates. Many other dragons consider them to be frivolous. Pet Silver’s can get into anything and everything. If they find a body of water they may defend it viciously from intruders. Silver’s are prized for their color so they are usually bred. However, no domestic dragon has been able to compare to the Silver’s colors... yet.
Flitter Dragon
Species: Flitter Dragon
Age Averages: 200-600yrs
Size: Colossal
Type: Wild
Location: Near the top of mountains.
Habits: Flitter dragons fly. A lot. Their entire bodies are built to be streamlined including two pairs of wings which enable a Flitter to hover and fly backwards. They range from dark blue to an off-white blue although males are usually on the darker spectrum. They do not have foreclaws and their backclaws are built for landing. When on the ground they have trouble walking and manoeuvring. Fortunately, the only time they usually land is when they are clutching.
Flitter’s eat anything that flies. Or sometimes jumps. They have powerful jaws that clamp down on their prey and won’t let go. They often eat the prey whole while on the wing. They even mate while flying in a display similar to bald eagles. Flitter’s do not have much of a hoarding desire but they will collect strange objects that catch their fancy. A Flitter’s chosen perch could contain any matter of detritus. Both female and male Flitter’s roam and only meet for mating whereupon the female leaves to lay and the male goes back to his business.
Flitter’s are popular as breeders, not so much as pets. Not only because of their size but also their sense of humour. A Flitter may find it hilarious when others get mad at them. They often kill other dragons hatchlings, steal hoards, and dive bomb other dragons for the fun of it. This is not very conducive when it comes to people. Domestic’s that come from Flitter’s are usually used as courier’s because of their superior flying abilities.
Kimly Dragon
Species: Kimly Dragon
Age Averages: 40-70yrs
Size: Tiny
Type: Wild
Location: Everywhere.
Habits: Kimly’s have the largest territory of any dragon in the wild. They eat carrion and band together with uneasy alliances that break and reform a lot. Their bodies are tiny and built for endurance, enabling them to fly for miles without rest. They have large eyes (usually purple) and are a mottled brown and yellow. A line of spines runs down their entire length, each and every one able to be flattened individually or all at once. The females have huge fore feet in order to carry eggs to different locations. No Kimly stays in one place for long; they are always moving around. Males will meet with females in heat briefly then both will go their separate ways. A female will raise her clutch on the move, even going as far as to abandon a hatchling or egg if she cannot carry that many.
No one knows why they never stop for long but it may be because of their suspicious nature. Council’s disturb them and Kimly’s will often avoid the gathering of dragons altogether. They are hard to catch by humans but highly praised by Loppolon breeders.
Whisker Dragon
Species: Whisker Dragon
Age Averages: 60-100yrs
Size: Medium
Type: Wild
Location: Bottom of mountains
Habits: Whiskers are peaceful dragons, reluctant to attack anything. They eat fruit, the occasional insect, and sometimes carrion if they can find it. They are mostly found wandering the bottom of mountains, usually in family groups. They rarely venture into the valley forests because the close quarters muddles their senses.
Whiskers are so named because they have very long whiskers on their face. The whiskers other functions are unknown but they do let the dragon know what’s around it and whether or not it can fit into a space. Whiskers have proportionally long necks so they can reach the fruits on trees. When not extended the neck is s-curved onto their back, reaching half their length before curving upwards. Their legs are sturdy with a strong grip in order to navigate the potentially treacherous base.
Females and males share the raising of their children and one family unit can raise many clutches together. They have been known to adopt other species of animals and dragons to raise themselves. The only time they will attack viciously is when threatened. They are known to be uncanny fighters. Their usual colors are white to grey.
Pets/Guarding:
Miiker Dragon
Species: Miiker Dragon
Age Averages: 40-60yrs
Size: Small
Type: Domestic
Location: Pets.
Habits: The Miiker is a popular pet dragon for it’s cuddliness and soft scales. Through vigorous breeding the Miiker possesses scales that are similar to leather and as long as it’s oiled regularly it stays soft and supple. They are short-legged and blunt nosed but have been bred with large eyes to attract buyers. Because their eyes take up a lot of space they can develop seizures, unexplained aggression, OCD, over grooming, self mutilation, and sudden death syndrome. They have two horns that can grow very long if not maintained properly. Cases of overgrown horns piercing the spines of Miiker’s is not uncommon. Although they possess tiny wings they are vestigial and, as a result, are prized by people who like the look of wings and don’t want to deal with the nerve damage or amputation.
Usually a soft eggshell blue in color there has been cases of yellow and green Miiker’s but because of the breeds already unstable gene’s the mutations have often been rife with deformities. Miiker’s are used by Pit Trainers to train their fighting dragons as Miiker’s have easily penetrated hides, blunt claws and soft mouths. As with every dragon there has been cases of Miiker’s mauling their owners but there is a higher chance that the owner survives. Miiker’s do not make good guard animals so unwanted ones are usually thrown to the streets where they are either picked up by Loppolon breeders, Pit Trainers, or other feral dragons.
Kiel Dragon
Species: Kiel Dragon
Age Averages: 50-100yrs
Size: Medium
Type: Domestic
Location: Pits or guarding.
Habits: Dark brown in color and covered in spines that protrude from every possible area, they are not the prettiest of dragons. They have no wings and sport wickedly curved claws. This, along with their extremely territorial nature, make them ideal Pit dragons or guards.
Hefora Dragon
Species: Hefora Dragon
Age Averages: 600-800yrs
Size: Tiny
Type: Domestic
Location: Pets
Habits: Hefora’s are known as the ‘accessory’ dragon as their long tails enable them to be wrapped around people’s clothes. They also come in many different patterns and colors. Once they become old enough they are abandoned because something the size of a cat is too heavy to carry around all day long. Hefora’s have long fingers with tiny claws and long muzzles filled with needle-like teeth. They have tiny triangular spines all the way down their body. They are known to be nippy and ill-tempered. They are wingless to prevent them from flying away although many do still move around. The owners too lazy to train them to be still, usually just tie them down.
Sessan Dragon
Species: Sessan Dragon
Age Averages: 50-150yrs
Size: Small
Type: Domestic
Location: Pets and Guarding
Habits: Sessan Dragons are one of the best tracking breeds. They were bred for it, with large noses on short snouts, massive wings in order to track for hours, and a flock mentality. They are often used on Egg Expeditions to sniff out dragon hideouts, however, hiring them is expensive so most entrepreneurs try to raise their own.
Sessan are not known as the smartest dragons but they are definitely not the most forgiving. They have been known to hold grudges for years sometimes for reasons unknown to their human companions. Since they have such a strong pack mentality (so much so that a Sessan will die without others of its kind around) if one dragon snubs a human, they all do. Unlike the more tractable of domestic dragons, the Sessan will attack back and ignore orders. Once you have their respect, however, they will follow you to the ends of the earth.

War:
Slither Dragon
Species: Slither Dragon
Age Averages: 50-80yrs
Size: Small
Type: Domestic
Location: Army Assassins
Habits: Slither’s are known as the silent stalkers in the night. They are rare but the mere mention of one can send shivers up people’s spines. They are completely black (even their mouth, tongue, and teeth) except for their garnet red eyes. It is rumoured that, in the heat of the moment, their eyes will glow. Built thin and lean, they have two small sharp horns on their head. They walk on the tips of their well-padded toes and have retractable claws for complete silence. They are trained to walk unnaturally, with their tails held up and their heads down. They have small wings, enough for short flights but not long ones.
Bred for assassination, they have naturally vicious natures and obsessive minds. Although not very loyal, they are bred to seek out one scent only and to kill at the end of it. Once the deed is done they are lured back into their cage using food as they are trained not to eat their kill.
Tessa Dragon
Species: Tessa Dragon
Age Averages: 35-40yrs
Size: Large
Type: Domestic
Location: Army ground support.
Habits: Tessa’s are heavily muscled, acid-spitting monstrosities. Bred to plough through enemy lines they have thick scales that protrude upwards into sharp ‘thorns’, tiny eyes, thick tails covered in lateral spines, and can spit a corrosive acid. Their body types are not built for riding so they are often trained to attack everything in their path and keep moving. This usually keeps them from killing their own teammates. Tessa’s come in one color; a deep purple. Uniform and for some reason unable to be bred out of them.
Picker Dragon
Species: Picker Dragon
Age Averages: 30-40yrs
Size: Medium
Type: Domestic
Location: Army Steeds
Habits: Picker dragons are usually ridden into battle because they have a body build that is similar to horses. Dragon riding is a lot different from horse riding, however, so the Pickers are put through vigorous training in order for their riders to control them.
Pickers have short necks, barrel chests, and thick legs. Their most defining feature are their multiple tails, whiplike and deadly weapons for a trained Picker. Their claws are blunt and short in order for them to move across terrain at fast speeds. Breeders tried to make natural armour over their bodies and were half successful. A well-bred Picker has heavy scales along its neck and legs; its underbelly is covered in large, keratin plates. The breeders couldn’t make any protection for their heads or backs so most Pickers go into battle with armour covering their weak spots. The only thing that shouldn’t be protected are their tails.

Transportation:
Possis Dragon
Species: Possis Dragon
Age Averages: 70-80yrs
Size: Colossal
Type: Domestic
Location: Transportation
Habits: The Possis was bred out of the Flitter so cannot carry much but is speedier than other transportation dragons. They are uncommon because most regular owners cannot house them.
Possis have short necks and tails with membranous spines on their heads. They come in a range of colors but the most common is turquoise. They have long lashes to protect their eyes from wind and very long claws.
Fimed Dragon
Species: Fimed dragon
Age Averages: 7-10 yrs
Size: Colossal
Type: Domestic
Location: Transportation
Habits: Fimed dragons are the most popular choice for transportation by Garinians. They are used pretty much everywhere including the military. Fimed’s are, by nature, gentle and submissive. They can fly decent speeds and carry a moderate weight.
Fimed’s have long, sinuous bodies that are mostly tail. The stubby front and back legs are located quite close to each other. Since there is not much space on the Fimed’s back, the drivers usually sit in front of the wings, at the base of their short necks and the transport undercarriage is strapped between their legs. Because the Fimed has such small body the undercarriage interferes with normal landings and Fimed’s must be taught to land only on their hind legs.
Kattle dragon
Species: Kattle Dragon
Age Averages: 15-40yrs
Size: Medium
Type: Domestic
Location: Dragon-drawn carriages
Habits: The Kattle (so named as a play on Cattle which, in retrospect doesn’t make any sense to any Garinians now) is a showy dragon bred specifically because the Duke’s and Lord’s didn’t like the look of the Pickers in front of carriages. Since they were bred for looks they have a tendency to be nippy and mischievous. Many a Garinian has been an unwilling part of a high speed chase through the streets.
Kattle’s have long, tapered legs, their claws snap together in elegant points whenever they lift their legs. Their necks are long and s-curved with straight spines that, in the well-bred ones, taper to deadly points. Their eyes are large and sit low and far apart on their heads, giving the illusion of a prey animal. Their jaws are similar to crocodiles in the thin, long snout although it is considered a flaw if teeth poke out. A non-trained Kattle’s tail slides along the ground behind them but they are trained to lift them up in a u-curve with the ends pointed parallel to the ground. Kattle’s come in a variety of colors but were bred with minuscule facets on their scales that cause them to glitter when hit by sun no matter what color they are. For some reason they all have bright green eyes.

You can make up your own breed of dragon, the ones mentioned are merely for your handiness.

______HUMAN CHARACTER______-
Name: Deravik [Last name ommited due to lack of memory of it]
Appearance: Six foot five.
Age: No one but he and Talesh know, but he appears to be twenty.
Sex: Male.
Race: Arvanen.
Biography: In the Western plains of Asurea, there's a civilization of tribals of the area called Arvanen. Unlike their more technologically and personality advanced counter-parts, Asureans, Aravene live traditionally off the land when in towns together, though the more common side, travelers, often only stop at inns and pubs to get food and such, though those kinds of things are far and few inbetween so most of them pack heavily and often have pack mules to carry the majority of their things. Most non-Arvanens find it curious why they travel for no reasons. If it was to survive, the fields of Asurea are rich with great soil and livestock, so it is easy to just stay in one spot and live happily. Some say that Arvanens are the first primitive race of humans, which is wrong, while others think it's a tradition for males to constantly travel. It's morally wrong for a female Arvanen to travel, and Arvans take their morals very seriously, though they're a lot more relaxed than most "religions" due to their lack of punishment for do-wrongers. If you don't count banishment as punishment...
Deravik was born on the road with a caravan, by a woman not native to the country of Asurea. On his travels, Deravik's father had met her and gotten married. His wife had left the country soon after Deravik was born, though Arvans were not one to judge nor hold grudges. Deravik grew up with his father, and when he was eighteen, was left on his own in the desert with a large pack of tools and items. Luckily a sand-storm wasn't going to appear for several days, allowing enough time for Deravik to make it to a pun located near a desert oasis. It was full of colorful people, and the bartender was around his age, most likely slightly younger. His travels often were thought weird, as they consisted of just going around the entire boundary of the desert and then slowly circling to the inside, often repeating. His life had no real purpose, but such was the way of life fate had chosen for him...
He had met Talesh once before he was actually on his own, though Deravik's father despised him for an untold and as such Deravik hadn't talked to his father in a while due to his relatively new partnership with Talesh, who in exchange for easy food carried Deravik's luggage and occasionally a lift over a water mass. After meeting Talesh, Deravik's traveling grew a lot more far out, eventually leaving the country to a strange place located across the globe from Asurea. There was a desert there too, and he was actually attacked once or twice for being with a dragon, but they were made easy work of with a sword and a nearly fifteen-foot-tall beast on his side. Curious to why they were so aggressive to dragon kin, Deravik sought to investigate a bit, though it was unlike his usual ways to poke around in others' business.
Personality: Preferring to keep to himself, Deravik tends to allow people to constantly guess things about him, age and all. The only real person who knows things about him is Talesh, but as a friend would, he plays Deravik's games too. He's often silent unless asked directly about the matter or in a conversation with only a single person, and even then only talks when the moment calls for it.
___DRAGON CHARACTER------_
Name: Talesh
Appearance: Fourteen-foot eight.
Sex: Male
Species: Pure Tranquillitas Deserto Draco
Tranquillitas Deserto Draco, or more commonly known as "Neravan Northern": a relatively rare species usually found in the Lenen Deserts, though it has been shown that
they do live in other areas, and such typically have a slightly different scale palette. Their vocal cords are advanced enough to be able to speak several different languages, including Human and Dragonic, as well as their brains smart enough to sentiently think possibly even more than a human They are more passive than other species but when provoked they are also a more aggressive species. Unlike most dragons, they do not have more than one hatchling per a century, reason being unknown. It is typically rare for a Neravan Northern to be with a mate for more than a fortnight when most leave their partner almost immediately after they lay an egg. Mothers lay around their single egg literally the entire time until it hatches for extreme protection, as studies have shown that males do not have the desire to mate very commonly, and as such it is extremely difficult to find one in the first place. It's also proven that the mother's scales toughen twice as much when sheltering the egg.
Once the hatcling escapes the egg shell, the mother immediately goes off to hunt, starving after the two-month-long hibernation period. If a hatcling is killed before the mother returns, the baby is considered a disgrace and all traces of it are abandoned, though if a hatcling is killed when the mother is near, the mother is considered a disgrace and usually finds someplace to hide and starve itself to death. Males, however, are a very different story. Males often roam around for no specific reason, often being compared to nomad travelers due to their lack of a "nest". Curious or more friendly males have actually accepted a human as a "friend" instead of food (however, the females are a lot more aggresive), and few becoming a "partner" with a human, though a man must prove himself as worthy of its companionship. They are known to commonly cross-breed, leading to many different sub-races of the Nervan Northerns...
Age: It's said even he himself lost count, but it was certainly somewhere above four hundred years old...
Personality: Talesh, being a more rational one of his kin, takes things into consideration, though often quick if given no real amount of time to ponder, which is often the case as humans are such impatient beings. However, Talesh takes Deravik's word in most matters that don't regard him in a serious way and will take action given if the consequences won't negatively affect him as a living thing. He also have a fond taste for fresh meat...
---
Sorry for Talesh's Bio being completely non-existant, but I seriously couldn't think of anything to actually write about him, after writing the species bio and Deravik's complete application. He's not the most special thing alive... I do think he's sufficiently explained within Deravik's.

I do, infact, care,

Also, regarding what Ani says, I think it would help a lot if you used stuff like bolding and text sizing to differentiate the different things.
I'm working on my app ATM, if you cared.
