As you may know, many servers have been creating their own shops. But they don't use in-game money, you have to pay real money. This shops are usually for ranks. Now, do you believe server shops should keep going?

Interesting fact: Dislike of server shops is one of the reasons Notch left Mojang.

most of them are p2w anyways, which will bring you an advantage over other players.
1
Not anymore. That's illegal now.
1
wait a minute.. server shops ssuch as buycraft are illegal now?
1
It's been illegal for years.
1
then how come most servers are up and running fine with shops and ranks?

The illegal part is anything sold for real money that can give an unfair advantage to players (the p2w part) or putting exclusive features of the play experience behind a paywall. Cosmetics and anything that can make the experience easier (e.g. ranks get in-game discounts) is fair game as long as all of the actual play experience can be achieved (though it might be more inconvenient). Please become more educated on this topic.

Servers have to be funded somehow. It's not like it's easy to keep them running for free, but there are certain lines that shouldn't be crossed, like putting game features behind a paywall consisting of real money (as opposed to in-game currency). I'm not against any of it as long as the features they are selling for real money are purely cosmetic (as were the terms set down in the EULA). I don't have to buy anything to enjoy the server fully, but supporting the server is still an option.

I don't really mind server shops, cheap or expensive. However, I do think more servers should also offer "point shops" where points are awarded consistently if you actually play on the server (not when you pay, though ranks could give a point multiplier of something) and can be used to buy perks and items. Maybe the point shops could even offer an exclusive rank for people who rack up enough points.
Don't get me wrong, I don't want to replace all server shops for point shops, but instead add them as a complement to players who spend their time using your server. For example, P2W perks should go in the point shop, while ranks and cosmetics go in point shops.

P2W perks and gameplay achievements should not be mixed, the negative effects of doing that are all over mobile, and in recent years also computer games.
it incentivizes making the regular gameplay more tedious, so people will get out of playing by paying, to in the end have a pleasant experience again that they otherwise would have had with one purchase.
as a result lots of games developed that way are a bad use of time, only kept alive by people hooked in through an easier beginning section already having sunk an amount of time into it that prevents them from quitting.
the same can easily happen with servers.
ideally there would be no purchases that change gameplay at all, but if a server can only be funded through having them there are options like the one libertyminecraft takes, increasing the build limit and land ownership timeout for donors, but not impacting gameplay otherwise

Its actually true what you say, pretty interesting.
1
Why not? also why the three other Options? If it's too expensive or "too cheap", just don't buy it
1
I mean; you could find a very good rank for 1.00$... or also you could find a bad rank for 100$
2
oftentimes these shops are illegal due to minecraft's EULA, unless they are for cosmetics only.
1
Good to know, actually.
1
sorry bud that's just how capitalism is the alternative is communism and that's failed a billion times over
2
communism is no more
1
actually sadly there are communist states, but they're in such disarray that I kind of consider them to be anarchy.
and before someone says china is communist, they're capitalist-communist.

they are the precise opposite of anarchy
chaos as a result of government trying to impose its will on every aspect of people"s lives can"t be called anarchy

it's reverse anarchy, where the government can impose whatever the hell it wants and the people cant do anything about it which now that I think about it that's just totalitarianism
