Science Fiction or Fantasy?
Which do you like more? Science fiction, typically taking place far in the future with technology we could only dream of today and aliens, or Fantasy, usually in a medieval setting with magic, wizards, and dragons and such. I honestly am a huge Sci-Fi fan. Let your opinion be heard!

Fantasy is amazing!
4
Fantasy has too much, well you know romance and singing
2
Sci-Fi, but then again, I do enjoy the "Islas Malvinas" So I could go for Fantasy based on that, eh, who knows. not sure.
3
I like the best of both worlds too. Star Wars and Warhammer 40K are science fantasy, meaning they possess supernatural and futuristic elements.
Just thought I'd throw it out there that there is indeed a genre where you can have both. And that Star Wars is not science fiction (It took place a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.)

I was going to say that! Being all like "But what about science fantasy? That thing's great!"
2
Both are great, and I don't want to discount the greatness of either. I voted Science Fiction because personally, those movies tend to interest me a little more than a lot of Fantasy. But there are great movies in both, like Star Wars (SF) and Lord of the Rings (Fantasy). So both are great!
2
Tough decision! I guess I gotta go with fantasy though ;)
2
Why not both?
2
*coming from a runescape fan* FANTASY!
6
Who said you can't have both?
2
I like both to be honest.
I love series like Doctor Who or Stargate as a nerd but I also love books and films like Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and a lot else

I love them both! They both take me to far away places, I could never have thought of.
2
I like Sci-Fi because... well... Freaking LIGHTSABERS!!! think about it
4

I’m gonna chose both.

BOTH

SciFi 🤖
4
I like both a lot, but I like fantasy more.
4
Same

i honestly prefer sci-fi over fantasy, as im more prone to want to use technology and energy based machines to do something than magic or sending an army of dwarves to do it
3
I don't care much for the techy pew pew SciFi but love the WhatIf...? SciFi.
On the other hand, I loooove Lord of the Rings and its companion texts, as well as Discworld and Dresden Files. Beyond those, though, there's very little fantasy I can stand. That's a whole lotta weight on the Fantasy side from those lovely series I named, but for sheer number of good science fiction I voted for SciFi

OMG YES THE DRESDEN FILES! After reading them, I went to check out the audio books and they're beautifully narrated. I highly suggest them (after you read them of course).
2
ME LOVE DRAGONS AND HARRY POTTER!!! IMA BIG TOMBOY. >_<
2
Liking Harry Potter doesn't make you a Tom boy. But I am glad that you like Harry Potter.
I love that series!
I love that series!
1
Well ima Tomboy anyway. ;P
1
That's good, the world needs good strong humans in the world. A few Tomboys can't hurt the world. :)
3
ERAGON! ELDEST! BRISINGR! INHERITANCE! THE FORK THE WITCH AND THE WORM!
2
I am sooooooo glad tat someone else likes those books!
2
I love those books. I just met Paolini in Nashville a month ago. And I think I've read them all (except the new one) about 6 times all the way through. I can't wait for "BOOK FIVE!"
1
I am so jealous! I have read them all about three times, I cannot Wait for the next one either
4
i can't pick - both hold a very special place in my lil heart.
3
Same. I have appreciation for all literature.
2
I like fantasy more (especially because I'm a HUGE Lord of the Rings fan). But there's a lot of good science fiction out there as well.
4
Science fiction. I actually have an entire forum on creating a sci-fi universe on here as well. But I do have a liking for fantasy elements. Mythical beasts (especially dragons), magic, etc.
1
ok yeah you reminded me of another favorite fantasy series: dragonriders of Pern
but I'm kind of a sucker for dragons in any form :)

Well I tend to hate them both equally because while they can be good, here's my main plights with em:
Me; Heyo peoples wanna write a stories?
Fantasy: Hrmmm we COUULDDD be creative lol jk here's another LOTR clone for ya!
Sci-Fi: DID SOMEONE SAY STORY HOLD MY MUG I'M GO SHOOT EVERYTHING DOWN!
*sci-fi has left chat*
Me: Soooo what about main conflicts?
Fantasy: Uhh so there's big bad bad guy and magic and chosen one and it's all epic and tense cuz there's 100 million mcguffins!
*sci-fi enters*
Sci-Fi: DID I HEAR CONFLICT!? HOLD ON I'LL GO INSTATE A DICTATORSHIP!
*sci-fi has left chat*
Me: Aaaalriiighhhtt so any interesting things to draw in people?
Fantasy: hehe lookit my thingio!
*fantasy has stuck pointy ears on a human who is very confused*
Fantasy: I'm soooo creative I just made a new species
Human: I was just trying to eat my darn lunch!
*sci-fi enters chat*
Sci-fi: Did I hear creature creation? I'll show you how it's done!
*sci-fi has painted me blue*
Sci-fi: I'm such a creative person! You are now a new species!
Me: Bu-but I'm still a-
Sci-fi: hush hush, Now time to create an entire world of predators that are evil and plant eaters that are good because we all know herbivores are 100% passive!
*sci fi has been killed by a rhino*
Me: Sheesh, well atlea-
*fantasy has inserted 15 love triangles somehow into its story*
Me: Alright I give up gbye.

Oh my gosh, I could not stop laughing after I read this! lol!
This also just about sums up the two genres.

You ever heard of Terrible Writing Advice? Your comment is giving me those vibes.
Aside from that, what you're talking about isn't the genre being bad, but the author. May I suggest the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett if you haven't already read it?

I LIKE BOTH

SAME

this is hard, I chose Fantasy because that is where my heart lies. But an argument can be made for sci-fi, because of two words. Star Wars
1
same but my two words are... Star Trek
1
A cheep knock off of Star Wars!
1
i'm bad at interpreting sarcasm through text, so please tell me this was a joke
1
I don't know if it or not, but I like Star Wars so much so anything that has Star or Wars in it is a knock off of star wars to me. Except the movies Disney made, those don't count as Star Wars. :(
1
ah, well i don't know if you already know this but Star Trek actually existed 11 years before Star Wars did, so it can't really be a knock off haha
