Open World if you can. Sort of like Skyrim. Maybe not as big because you're just one person. Try to have something unique, something different that sets this RPG apart from all the others. Maybe, your one is a bit less serious and has bananas instead of swords? Or maybe you can fly instead of just walking / sprinting around. Those are just basic ideas that probably aren't original at all, but I hope you get what I mean.

Of course, if this is just a little learning project, try to keep it simple. Maybe just have him only go through a couple stages and make it so he can level up as he goes through. This helps experience you for making better, more creative and fun games in the future, as you'll have ideas that you can take from earlier games, and polish them into your new, shiny game.

Ik. Make it like a real life simulator. You can go through various stages and earn various skills. Like at the child stage there would be a bully boss fight or teen stage parents bossfight or adult stage work boss/Drunk guy boss fight.
I could go on for ages but you get what I'm saying.
